This is just a rendering...but a good idea. I think the HP figures are a little high but we should know in about a month or so

Forget the Accord and the Camry. It looks like Nissan is going after the Lexus is300 and the low end BMW-3 series with that much performance, if so then the Maxima has to move upscale.

Should be sweet

If Charles Ghosn (Nissan Pres) is serious about becoming a performance oriented company again then this car should rock. The Max is supposed to get bigger, which means it will need even more power. It should be good to be a Nissan Fan over then next bunch of years: New SE-R, New Kick-A$$ altima, New Z, New Full Size Truck...I can't wait for the NAIA in Detroit in January

We'll
lets see how much this thing will cost, since it WILL have both, 4 and 6 cyl. options, this is going to be a good Camry and Accord fighter, but with the 240 hp V6...FORGETTABOUTIT!!!

I agree with PRINCE NISMO...

That front end shot really reminds me of an IS300...I like it!! =) Looks like Nissan is moving up...what's next for the MAX?

Actually I don't think the V6 will be that much..

Since the VQ is going to be in a whole lot more vehicles...it'll be in the Altima, Maxima, Pathfinder, Z, and probably be a base engine for the new Full Size truck and SUV...not to mention the Infinitis...

......

Hmm....It STILL only costs 20K....its NOT a 3 series/is300 fighter....but will snub most most cam-cords in terms of perf...maybe not in other areas. And for those that say "oh..in 2 years the accord will make blah blah blah...."

Thats 2 years that altima will be out. In the words of doug "run what ya brung"

well lets just say if it has 240 hp and it looks like that it will be able to compete with the lex and beemers and it will probably be a lot cheaper then those, then again we will just have to wait and see.

yeah but a real sports car/sedan is gotta be RWD, so hp per dollar wise it's good, but just not in the catagory yet.

Hey Max I Am

The Maxima isnt gonna become bigger in 2002, if in 2003 or 2004. why would nissan change the max after 2 years?? every other generation of the max lasted about 5.

I think that Altima is nasty looking,

I don't know what it looks like but it looks bad {reaL BAD},I don't care how many HP it has it's still ugly to me.
Does any one know how much it weighs?I figure 2900-3200?Just curios cause I don't want these altimas to be quicker then my I30 cause if they are SC here I come haha.

2002 Altima

That thing looks fugly. It looked great for 2001, but what the hell are they thinking. They should have just put the new engine into the 2002 and make it rear-wheel-drive.

just wondering, but why are so many of you worked up about RWD? Is it performance, handling, or what? I think there are so many great cars out there (lexus, bmw, benz) that i would have to think a lot about before considering to purchase because they are RWD. For me it's a matter of climate, i'm from MA and RWD is not very functional during the winter. Now a large part of the US gets a decent amount of snow, and a lot of you are proclaiming RWD as a great thing that every car.. including the altima?? should have. So my question is why would someone prefer RWD over FWD in a primary vehicle in a not so great climate?

From what I've heard

The 2002 Altima is going to be riding on a slightly shortened Maxima platform. The 2003 Max is the one that is supposed to be bigger...which would be a four year product cycle.
