Apexi SAFC Vs Fields? installed Apexi and speed limiter is still there :(

I installed my Apexi SAFC, Thanks to SMX (Wayne) and Bosco, for lending me a good hand.

Now for the question why is it that the Apexi SAFC does not over ride the 120 MPH speed limiter and the Fields controller does? can anyone answer this question. Y2Kev you told me this would not work and you were correct. What if I start doing the fuel adjustments which of course that would not be a good idea? I did two runs up to 120MPH and the car just shut down. Tomorrow I will go to Radio shack and manually control that since speed limiter is still there and do the Bens ECU mod. Sprint Ill be hitting up your site for directions since theres about 70 wires and I did see more then one pink wire.

Kevin the reason why I thought this Apexi SAFC would over ride the ECUs signals is becuase after you install the SAFC if you dont program it it will shut your car down. Bosco did some adjusting to that gadget which I still have no clue what he did therefor the car would not shut down.

its the APEXi RevSpeed Meter that eliminates the speed limiter.

its another one of those gadgets that APEXi makes, it doesnt really DO anything, the AFC adjusts fuel and such, but the RSM doesnt really do anything performance wise, its more of a device to observe things about the car, such as rpms and speed. Also comes with an optional G Meter, and u can calculate things such as 1/4mile like GTech, and 0-60 and how many Gs u can pull etc etc etc. But the biggest thing it does is eliminate the speed limiter on most japanese imports. Y2KevSE has this if im not mistaken and he could probably tell you more of the specifics that the RSM does. Hope that helps.

thanks for the input. Kevin doesnt have a speed limiter on his car, I am under the impression he has a SE and those dont come with speed limiters. If he sees this post he will let us know. I am going to do the cut the pink wire. I already cut a wire to install this SAFC so why not cut another one.

when you install the Apex SAFC, you don't cut the speed sensor wire, you just splice into it; therefore, the SAFC cannot alter the signal but it can only read it.

but on the Fields sfc, you cut the speed sensor wire and input into the Fields and then the unit alters the signal and feeds the altered signal to the ECU.

IIRC all 5th gens regardless of model, autos had limiter of 130 something mph.

So this means I cant cut the wire then? since I tapped into it? I have to go check to make sure I didnt tap into this pink wire. If I did then I am stuck at 120 for ever. Ill check on the Apexi RSM then. You answered the question perfectly thanks.

I have hit my limiter at approx. 139mph too on my 2001 AE. Pulls and pulls...then just shutters a little and stops accelerating.

who ever said anything about the SAFC cutting the speed limiter?

man, i hope you double check these things prior to installing them.

yea. its the Rev/Speed Monitor that disables your speed limiter, but will give you a check engine light for auto-tranny link, 0504 (?? i think)

well anyhoo. if you want to get rid of your limiter, just get an SE ecu.

I was under the impression it would cheston but it didnt. I did get two CE codes because it came on as me and SMX went on a friendly run. I can cut the wire and I will use the 20 AMP switch to turn on briefly. I wonder how much a SE ECU will run me?

do it right and get no codes.
