I can't remember where I read this but I read an article that said there are N/A VQ's in some (european or japanese) racing league putting out around 410 hp. The original design was built for racing. Who can find any info on these motors? I haven't had any luck but maybe someone else can find something. We could check the specs on those motors. Granted, we won't see anywhere near 410 hp on a street driven N/A Max that has to meet certain emissions criteria, but I for one would like to know what Nissan engineers put in these bad boys.

Good man.

How can we get some specs on these engines? What I wouldn't give to show up at the track with a 410 hp Max! Bite my a$$, domestics.

Nissan uses cast camshafts which already have some shape. A billet cam is one cut from a steel billet on a CNC lathe. So if the JWT cams started from blank Nissan castings they are not billet.



However it is possible to regrind a cam that has been used. For example if anyone has a blown VQ all you have to do is send the cams to whoever you want to do the regrinding. I had used ISKY 262's in my max and the difference was very noticeable. Otherwise new/billet cams from nissan cost $200 each and ISKY charges $150-300 for regrinds. With a core motor you can get cams for less than $500. I'm also sure the install is labor intensive since the IM has to be removed. I just looked at the FSM and man this install is a b****. Hmm also it appears the SR20 method of zip tying the chain to the sprockets might work too.
Regrinds work very well too. I had my SR20DE cams reground by JG Engine Dynamics which moved the peak power to 7200 RPM and added about 18 fwhp.

A cam install on any VQ motor will be a big chore because the entire front cover has to be removed from the engine (both halves) in order to get the cam brakets off. In the process you have to remove all of the accessories, motor mount, crank pulley, 3 sets of timing chains and tensioners, 6 sprokets, water pump and the bottom cover & oil pan are supposed to come off to. The ty-rap trick is just about pointless. You have to re time everything when you put it back in anyways. If any of you are willing to invest the $1100 for the cams you should also be willing to invest $1100 of your personal labor to do the job. And have a fresh tube of Ultra Gray handy because you're going to need lots of it.

Whomever buys these will probably get the same great customer service turbo95max got. Jim Wolf may even insult your Maxima and charge you $100 dollars for wasting your time.
