I've seen the JWT cams gain around 10-15whp in a VG30 and 8-30whp in a SR20 depending on grind. Looking at the specs of the OEM VQ cam it is so mild. A grind simular to the ISKY 262 for the VGs would probably see a 10-18whp gain, without much if any loss of low rpm torque. The question is who has some cores that are willing to be "donated" for science err testing .

Yes, but how many people are going to have the money to install something as expensive as cams, and not touch anything else engine related?
I think testing with mods is even more beneficial.
I agree with BriGuyMax...certainly nothing as radical as, 40fwhp and 22lb-ft should be expected, but I know how mild the stock cams are..the VQ is in fact a severely detuned racing engine. What better way to detune an engine than to choke it with mild cams? I'm expecting at least a 20fwhp gain as well.

JWT uses new nissan billets when they get the cams reground. However it is possible to regrind a cam that has been used. For example if anyone has a blown VQ all you have to do is send the cams to whoever you want to do the regrinding. I had used ISKY 262's in my max and the difference was very noticeable. Otherwise new/billet cams from nissan cost $200 each and ISKY charges $150-300 for regrinds. With a core motor you can get cams for less than $500. I'm also sure the install is labor intensive since the IM has to be removed. I just looked at the FSM and man this install is a b****. Hmm also it appears the SR20 method of zip tying the chain to the sprockets might work too.
EDIT: The FSM lists the duration as 232* and the cam lobes have a hieght of 43.9-44.1mm. Also the VQ30 intake/exhaust cams have the same valve timing as the 94+ SR20 cams. It is a fact that swapping in a 91-93 intake cam usually gains 5-8whp on 95+ se-rs.

What do you mean as far as cores. If I understood correctly these are not regrinds, but rather brand new billet pieces. Both Brian and I plan on having these by spring. I hope my credit card is ready for a shock!

yes...N/A cams should not go into a FI car, but it is possible for FI spec cams to go in an N/A car(ie- the Nismo Euros for the VG and VGT).

Yes. The 3.0L VQ cams have 232 deg duration on intake and exhaust. Very very mild. 256 deg (JWT cams) is even conservative for an aftermarket cam. Should give very little low rpm torque loss, if any.

keep in mind the first to get these cams was I30krab, and his car is supercharged..He's the one who pushed to get them out the door.

I was thinking the same thing 256 is pretty mild. Better than our stock 232, but still not very radical. Personally I'm willing to sacrifice low end and idle if I'm able to extract some more top end (if the gain is significant). I know alot of guys running 262s and 268s on cars like VR6s without driveability problems.

whats yor point?? I said yes, FI to N/A will work, NOT vice versa!! anyways my buddy has the Nismo Euro VG Cams(for the VGT) in his 92 Max GXE.
