ok heres my problem, i need to write a persuasive speech for one of my classes on thursday. my topic is "why you should know basic facts about your automobile" my point is to convince people that they should learn basic mechanics because it is useful and saves you money (you can do your own tune-ups, change oil, etc.) now can anyone give me some input? like some ideas on why you agree/disagree with me? anything! i need help thanks!

Understanding basic automotive mechanics can and will save you a huge amount money. A $15 multi-meter, $20 Chiltons manual, and $30 vacuum gauge will pretty allow you to check operation and running condition of any system on a car. Changing oil and rotating tires is extremely simple and why people spend the money on this stuff is beyond me. With about $400 in tools (jacks, jack stands, full socket set including extensions, wrench set, torque wrench, springs compressors, screw driver set, shop light, and the tools listed about) will allow you to perform almost any work short of pulling an engine.

People need to understand that cars really aren't that complicated.

college doesnt suck! if it was easy, there is no point. u just have to make it interesting, and push your way through all the boooring classes you have to take.

i dunno ... the brakes that your car has ... airbags ... abs ... i dunno .. stuff like that ... like you know what each gear does ... when i was in my accident, i was driving along a snowy road and i realized i wasn't going to stop at a stop sign in time and there was a an coming up the road, so i dropped it into 1st (becuase i knew it would grip better than drive) and i got hit in the rear instead of my door .. my knowledge of gears i believe saved my life

 

Ya know.... It all ways good to know a little somthing about your car, because people and shop will try to pull **** over on ya, just read up or looking at some problems that your car might have should be good, and checking the oil, and other things under the hood for causes that might effect the way the car drives or runs, just to let you know some people do not even check the oil and run there rides for ever until it runs dry. plus just add the reason that if they would like to have a nice running car that will not break own on them then they might want to read.

 

Well start off thinking about all the styles of rhetoric, pull out all the stops when you write a persuasive paper. But make sure you stick with one style of rhetoric. I have been in college for 3 years now(started at 21). Every paper a wrote I came up with a basic outline, and just filled everything else in with B/S that sounded good(good research helps) the fill ins I wrote on a whim...I just let it flow when I had ideas in my head, I just type away without thinking(like now) and edit later; I have made an A on the 10+ papers I have written. Try to think of times where knowledge on your car has helped you, and also ask your proffesor if you can use quotes from this forum(you will need to ask the author of the post too just out of respect). Finally, try to fine articles in newspapers, magazines, etc. where people have had bad shop experiences, that would really help your arguement if you could dig up something like that.
