building box for 12" subs
#1
i am building my own box for 2 12" Jensen XS 375 watt subs. while i'm at home depot getting my 3/4" board cut to mke the box, should i have a divider made for the middle, or shoud i let the subs run in the same space? anyone out there know what would sound better? the guy at curcut city said a divider isnt needed, but most of the boxes i see at best buy are divided. help... this is delaying the install of my super ****ty sound system. also to be included are my 6.5" kenwood 3ways for the front doors and i am buying some pioneer 3way 6x9's for the rear deck. to power the subs i have an old 25x2 MTX terminator amp that actually puts out somewhere near 150x2. thanks for the help!

guess that shows what the roadshop guys at circut city know... i wont be letting them install it
while i'm thinking about it, what is the best way to let the sound into the passenger area? i have a 3rd gen. the arm rest folds down in the rear, but there is no hole in the plastic divider between trunk and seats. should i cut a hole in that, or maybe some small holes in my rear deck, or leave the whole thing sealed ? i'm worried about the buzzing trunk. anything short of $100 in dynamat going to help that?

Either way you build the box, it wont make any difference. If the box is open they will just work together VS. if it was split they would be independant. If anything use the divider for extra support for the box itself. You wont hear or feel any difference between the two styles.
If it was me i would do split design just to have the extra support in the box.
As for the hole in the back seat, i would definitly cut it out. My 96 has the flip down piece in the center wich gives acess to the trunk. I leave mine open all the time to vent out the bass. Whenever i have it closed i get rattles in the rear deck and alot less bass. I thought about the ports in the rear deck, but they wouldnt compare to the opening in the back seat. Also make sure you put the subs close to the rear of the trunk as possible to get the best bass reflex!
