TPS Codes Poping up?.....Read this could save you Money
Ok,
I was driving my G/F home the other day and my car almost stalled at the light, I floored it to get the car moveing.... it started to go, but the check engine light went on....
I got home and checked the code, and it said my TPS ( Throttle Position Sensor ) was bad, and that my tranny shifted into 1st improperly....well i spent a whole day taking off the TB, a friend of mine ( thanks Ethan -emax1995 ) told me that maybe my TB is so dirty that the sensor cant read the throttles position and to try cleaning the Tb before buying a new sensor.
So I cleaned it and DAMN it was dirty, I have over a 100,000 miles on my car, and never cleaned it once.
I put everything back together, re-set the computer and the engine light was on again, I got the code and it was 0505 , when I looked it up, it said that it meant no error was found.
AWSOME!
The next time i started my car the light wasent there.... I drove around, and its been a day now and the light hasent poped back up, I just wanted to make this post incase any of you go threw the same problem, or if any of you are around 100 K miles and never have cleaned your TB, i recomend it , the car feels like a new car.
I want to say thanks again to Chaz -Cbr2- for helping me locate the Sensor ( even though i dident need it ) *Knock On Wood*
And Ethan - emax1995- For all the tips and advice.
Thanks again

The TPS sensor sits outside the TB. It's a variable resistor which is attached to your throttle plate. When the plate opens the resistance changes telling the ECU when and how much your stepping down on the accellerator pedal. (or the throttle position - hance the name Throttle Position Sensor)
It's not effected by gunk inside the TB, it's completely mechanical, attached to the side of the TB itself. It's great that you cleaned your TB and moving the sensor around a bit has probably made it start working again.
I hate to bring you bad news, but your TPS is probably going to fail on you again. Sorry, but thats how it goes, especially the TPS. It's mechanical and will ware out over time.

On 4th gens, the OEM TPS seems to be a little flaky. StephenD has a nice writeup within this post as to going with a non-OEM replacement:

TPS's don't necessarily tend to fail on 4th gens, but are suspected to be the source of the "throttle shock" experienced by most 4th gen automagic owners.....
I agree with Tom: it's doubtful your TPS issues are gone.
But it's always good to clean the TB.
