I just installed a tranny temp gauge....maybe it is a good time to share some info (btw, thx to Y2kevSE and Maksim2000 for helping me on the gauge install)

ok...here's my background: a boosted 2k Maxima with 3.33 pulley, vb, tranny cooler, updated TCM/solenoid.

Question
Following events will increase the ATF temperature, please place them in order from the fastest increasing rate to the slowest.

A.stop & go traffic on freeway with AC ON (shifting between 1st and 2nd mostly)

B.normal local driving for 15 minutes(stop light to stop light, 1st-2nd-3rd, OD off)

C.boosting on a slightly inclined hill (WOT @ 2500 and cut off @ 5500rpm)

D.going up hill with 1/2 throttle, from 1st gear to 4th for 1/4 mile. (not boosting)

E.cruising on freeway @ 4th, 2500rpm. speed: 70mph.

I will post the answer soon

this is just my observation....maybe different in other's car. But I was really surprised that boosting really heats up the ATF....in just a few seconds

for some reason, I dont see a fast temp increase when I turn the AC on in stop/go traffic. But once I turned it off....it starts to increase to 170F. Maybe the AC fan helps to cool the tranny cooler.

Quote:
B.normal local driving for 15 minutes(stop light to stop light, 1st-2nd-3rd, OD off)
Do ask me why....but this increase the tranny temp faster than going uphill (no boost). 15 minutes city driving rocks my tranny to 180F and stays there for quite a while.

Quote:
C.boosting on a slightly inclined hill (WOT @ 2500 and cut off @ 5500rpm)
boosting on uphill road is like putting ur ATF in a microwave. It went straight up to 190 in less than 20 seconds.

Quote:
D.going up hill with 1/2 throttle, from 1st gear to 4th for 1/4 mile. (not boosting)
another way to cook ATF....going uphill like this heats up the tranny temp to 170. but once I finished teh 1/4 unhill ramp....it cools down to 150 - 160.

E.cruising on freeway @ 4th, 2500rpm. speed: 70mph.
High speed helps cooling the ATF a lot if u have a tranny cooler. It cools it down to 150F for my 30 miles on freeway and that's why we see driving in local will boil up the ATF.

so the answer is C-B-D-A-E

and I live in Bay Area, California. Avg. temp was around 60 in here these past few days.
