2k4 Maxima could be 4WD??

whoa. i was just reading FreshAlloy.com.
"Nissan's front/all-wheel 6-cylinder Murano is due in December, and judging from its initial head-turning effects, we are certain that it will give SUV fans the opportunity to drive something that is radically different from the bland norm. The Maxima, which in recent generations has been a muscular front-wheel drive car, is in need of an overhaul because of the Altima's recent successful upgrade. It will reap the benefits of sharing platforms with the Murano, undoubtedly acquiring additional ponies under the hood and an improved all-wheel drive gallop. "

has this been discussed? i thought the next step up for the max would be a tranny change, but really AWD?

Actually awd might be easier than rwd. If Nissan stays with the transverse layout and just changes the tranny. Ala the x-type Jag on the Ford Contour platform.

There's no doubt in my mind that the next Maxima will offer AWD. I don't know if it will show up in the 1st year of production though. Think about it for a second, Nissan wants to make damn sure that the new Maxima gets separated from the Altima and AWD would solve that problem. I'm venturing to say the new Maxima will be trying to compete with the A4/Passat AWD varients. I wouldn't be surprised if the AWD Maxima is sporting 270+ hp so that it stays well above the competition. 6 speed, 270+hp, AWD

I dont know if the altima guys have figured it out or not yet.. but they will be able to put the AWD Murano parts onto there Altimas. A AWD Altima would be pretty cool.

That'd be great if it really happened. It makes a lot of sense, imho. The 6th gen Max better not weigh 2 tons and understeer everywhere like the Passat W8, though. If the awd was with a rear bias like the Jaguar X-Type's 35/65 split, I'd consider getting one for sure.

It just blows my mind that people who actually work at Nissan dealerships don't have a clue about the products they sell. Since the introduction of the Altima, Nissan has confirmed that the next Maxima will be based on an extended Altima platform (ie FWD). The thing that's interesting about the Altima platform is that the unibody tunnel is a bit bigger that the 5th gen Maxima suggesting that a AWD driveshaft could be run in this tunnel. This is why we are all speculating about an AWD Maxima.

Someone tell Nissan to make a Twin Turbo package with that AWD and I'll put down my deposit for one right now.
The maxima is too big for the passat. It would be competing with the 5series and Audi A6 lineup.
