are there any safe 'chains' for tires?

I say chains but I guess I mean more of a strapped setup that wont eat up your rims.
Snow is fine, bring it on... all you got.. cause I can get snow treads for that.. but here in the south its just pure ICE. no snow at all. And you cant drive a tank on this stuff. right now theres 2 inches of solid ice on everything. (including trees that are snapping left and right). Anyhow, we were traveling this weekend and almost got caught by this stuff. I dont care if I can only drive 10-15mph with them on, I just am looking for something emergency-like that wont cheeze up the car. Of course, I also realize if youre talking about freezing to death with your family on a desolate interstate, then screw the wheels. but having got home a mere 40 mins before the ice, I realize that in the south, I'm gonna need to carry something in the trunk in the winter months.

If you have the stock 15" rims you shouldn't have any problems with chewing up the rims. 205-65 should have plenty of tire. But you might want to consider cable chains. A little easier on the rims I think.
