I have all 4 Stillen X-drilled rotors on there way to me. Problem is this, I have been talking with some people telling me that the x-drilled have a tendency to crack under normal driving? Is this true?

If so, should I send them back and exchange them for slotted?

I havent had a problem with mine what soever. They may have a tendency to crack, however I have yet to experience that and I drive extremely hard on them. They are being replaced soon though. Slotted does have a lesser tendency to crack though IMHO

To answer your question

craking is a symptom of mis-use. This means a few things:

1] the pad/rotor combination exceeded the tempurature range of the product. It takes a lot to do this!

2] The install and break in period was done improperly.

I have Stillen cross drilled rotors on my show car and now have 15k miles on them including 100 miles on Las Vegas Motor Speedway. No problems what-so-ever.

I also have cross drilled rotors on my Maxima and now have over 20k on them. It is a daily driver. My wife is also hard on brakes.

You should be fine.

Regards

Thank you for the honest feedback of the product. Just wanted the confidence boost. It just didn't seem right that they would crack under normal driving or else the application use woulda been labeled differently by now. Thanks.

hey chris

i have the powerslot and axxis metal masters,15k and they are fine. the pad & rotor comb. is important i think. the axxis pads go with the powerslot rotors, etc., i guess stillens pads go with their rotors. they are(were)brembo blanks and they drill them and chamfer them there. they were to expensive for me. the powerslots were alot less.

Aren't the Stillen and Powerslot's relatively the same? The pad type shouldn't matter between the metalmasters. I'm gonna be running the axxis pads with the stillen rotors...

Chris,
make sure you take it easy during the first few hundred miles while breaking in the new pads/rotors.

also make sure the lugs are torqued in a start pattern @ 72-87 lb-ft torque. With all this done, you lessen the chance of cracking. For street use, the chances are very slim if properly cared for (ie don't spray cold water on hot rotors)

Porterfield is good. You can get them cross-drilled AND cryo-treated at the same time. Of course, you would be taking a $60-$70 rotor and then paying $40 for cross-drilling and another $40 for cryo-treating, but I would say its well worth it to alleviate some concerns about cross-drilled rotors 'stressing' too early in their life.

But, and I mean most important, make sure your wheels are properly balanced AND torque your lugs to about 108 N-m like got rice? suggested. Take it easy on the brakes for 500 miles and then have at it....

I'd also like to know where to get these

Are there regular auto supply stores that supply Axxis pads?

We carry both Stillen and Powerslot

e-mail for quotes. If we have enough interest again, I will re-run the group buy prices.

Axxis pads, $25 front, $38 rear. Let me know if you're interested.

I don't think you'd find the Axxis pads in your local stores.

One more cause of cracking the rotors

Washing the car.... er, rather spraying the rotors while they are hot (easy due to the open design of the SE rims).

This will cause warping/cracking...

I've had 3 sets of crossdrilled rotors.. never had a problem, but i'm careful about the rotors...
