What would you do with a JL 500/1?
What would you do with a JL 500/1?
What would you do with 500 watts of JL audio power?
I just bought a JL 500/1 amp. It puts out a clean 500 watts in mono and can handle virtually any load at the same power. What should I get for subs? Here is what I am considering:
A. 1 JL Audio 12W6
B. 2 JL Audio 10W3s
C. 2 JL Audio 12W3s
D. 3 JL Audio 8W3s
E. 4 Kicker Comp 10"s
I listen to all sorts of music. I have had every speaker size imaginable in my cars over the years. My favorite speaker ever was a JL Audio 15W1 in a gigantic ported box.
I just want something that will look cool mostly. I am only going to be using the one amp. My deck will remain stock. Eventually I will upgrade decks and run my front mids with my Punch 150 amp that is mounted underneath my rear deck.
Basically, all I want visible in the trunk is:
Subs
JL Amp
NOS kit
I might even willing to scrap my spare tire and custom fabricate a fiberglass housing using the spare tire well as my enclosure.
Oh yeah, I really like Wizzamax's setup in his trunk, but I would want a trim panel around the sub box.
Anyhow, any opinions are welcomed. Please.

I have 2 12" JL Audio W3 subs with a JL Audio 500/1 Amp and I love the setup. I also have a 300/4 with JL Audio XR Components and Coaxials. Right now I just kinda have the amps and subs in the trunk. I'm getting the custom work finished this Sunday. I'll be posting up pics ASAP.

Personally (being also a sound connoisseur) I would go with A : a single 12W6.
Go for the new one's 12W6v2 that look tons like the W7. They are based on the same design so you know they pound and they can handle 500 clean watts easy. That amp is PERFECT for it I think.....hell I think that's the setup I'll get. Thanks for the idea!

hey wassup asu.. funny how ur the same guy taht got the progress springsl ike myself.. how much did u pay for ur install? i think im either gonna go to the place where i got the rims for and pay 90? or go to this place called california tint on rosemead n pay 70? (maybe hookup) ok nvm that
well i got that setup in my trunk.. the 500/1 monoblock Jl audio amp powering two 12 inch jl w3's .. i think it bumps enough and sounds clean enough. but it sure takes up a lot of trunk space so if u like just one sub u could get like wat the guy above me said.. but i like the setup i got.. either way u cant really go wrong.

should be in the audio forum, but...
I think if you're really going for looks or some kind of attraction, a dual sub setup is the way to go. I always catch flak from friends when they see my trunk open, exposing my single sub setup. But I prefer it that way for sound purposes. They talk **** without even hearing the thing (or knowing what it is), just because it's a single-sub setup. It just doesn't "look right" to them, because people are used to symmetrical multi-sub setups, y'know?

I currently have 3 Jl10w3's in my car. It hit hard enough to make my ear ring and that only have the amp turned 1/3 of the way up...
Here a pic of my setup:
Hompage
Its in page two. Its a crappy pic but I'll have a new one up soon...
