Bye Bye Maxi HELLO 300ZX!

Well, after owning a maxima for 2 years I passed the love to Meccanoble. I just bought a 93 300zx 5spd with 80K miles in great condition from one owner. I will still attend meets and chill out here with the best 4 door sedan.

You cant be mad cause its still a NISSAN. The best cars on earth!

Congrats man! You now own one of the best-looking coupes ever made IMO. Was your Max a 5spd? Is the 300ZX as quick as the Max was?

You should have got the turbo model. Unless you're not really into go and more into show. Then I'll understand.

There are two at my work that I walk by everyday and even though they're not turbos I still love the styling.

Plus, it's RWD.

Congrats on the purchase. Please post some pics if you haven't planned already. That car's styling is timeless. It's a great touring car. I still have a '95 300Zx brochure on my shelf and I still dream about it. I would like to score a nice black or pearl white 2+2 5 speed someday.

Dont be fooled by the 2+2. Its has an extra USELESS seat but you loose interior space for yourself.

damn homey.. you could have had a N/A MKIV or a TT FD3 for the same amount money.. someone pass me the hammer..

Sweet ride as far as looks. The 300 is one of the most striking cars ever.

My favorites:

Supra
NSX
RX-7
300z

I think that if Nissan would have modified the look of the car you have, the 350 would have made a much bigger impact. But Nissan's CEO said that Nissan is redesigning their cars to give them a new but common look that will represent the new Nissan. From the spy pictures of the new Maxima, and the styling of the altima and 350z, I would take the mid 90's Nissans anyday, alhtough I am a big fan of their engine progression.

I hope that Toyota doesn't go vanilla with their design of the Supra, like Nissan, and Mazda did with their replacements.

stock TT = slow
modified TT vs modified Turbo Maxima = Slow Z32TT

I am sorry.. but that car is slow.. the amount of money it takes to make a TT fast.. you could do way more with far less with a TT Supra.. Z's only look good.. they are not performance monsters

humm....by your statement it takes lots of $$$ to make a TT fast. It takes more $$$ to make a max as fast. ie $4000 for the turbo alone.

Don't get me wrong, I love my max.

As for speed/performance of my Z ask Jason (bigsaddler)

peace

when did this happen?!?!

damn Val,
Congrats on the new car.. personally, I would have kept with the original plan and had gotten a much newer car, more reliable and probably more practical not to mention better for insurance.. = 5th gen max.

But congrats.. i want to see it.

Zs CAN be made to perform extremely well, but the maintenance and mod costs are horrendous. $2k to replace the turbos, which seems to be common at around 100k miles. there's NOTHING on my car that costs that much, aside from the tranny- and it lasted 160k on the OE clutch (or until three weeks after I bought it)
rebuilt the tranny and I've put less than $1000 in mods on it, and it'll out go, out stop, and out corner a stock TTZ.

I've got a friend with a 400+hp '93 TT. He only had me by about 5 cars to 120mph on the highway, from a 20mph roll. When I hit the brakes, he FLEW by me. we got back up to speed and I did it again.. by that point, his brakes were smoking like all get out and mine were just getting warmed up.

Zs are pretty, they're fast, they're expensive to own and mofidy, they're gas guzzlers, and hard to maintain.

But would I dump my Max in a hearbeat if I could afford to pick up a good one? Sure as Hell would!

lets see I have only 49K on my 91TT so what will happen when I get to 100K I most likely have the same setup as the 93. I will agree that the stock brakes on the Z are not up to the task. Thats why mine are not stock

are we going to factor in initial cost? i mean you can't leave this a half assed survey.. i mean.. the cost of a 95 ZTT vs a 95 Maxima.. its obvious you could buy a turbo kit for the 95 maxima with money left over.. so shall we dig deeper into this conversation? or do you want to just leave it as is?
