A new intake idea??

Has anyone thought about using your stock air box as a cold air box like weapon R has

http://www.weapon-r.com/airbox.html

I believe that cool air is the way to go as far as intakes, but the bends, and the cramped space of the fender wells (I think this is why CAI test low in the top end) leads me to try and fabricate my own. This obviously will also save me a little money, and I love fabricating and working on cars.

I have already by-passed the intake resinator under the battery, with a ram air scoup that runs under the car. But again this leaves alot of bends and turns which undoubtedly inhibit flow characteristics.

My idea for an ideal intake would be one that has minimal piping but still gets cool air. Basically a frankencar intake, surrounded by a cold air box, that had the bottom opened towards an open fender well (cut away a portion of the fender, and the bottom of the box. This would be a straight shot towards the throttle body, with minimal piping, and cool source of air that was impervious to engine heated air.)

So (sorry to make this so long) my idea is to open up the bottom of the stock air box with a couple of three inch ports through the fender well. The design of the intake and air box are ideal for this, it already sits against the fender, and the air will still pass through the filter before entering the path to the throttle body. I would also fabricate a midpipe from the MAF to the throttle body, to one day intstall nitrous, and smooth air flow a little more.

This would also keep a relativly stock look, with slightly modified pieces like a black midpipe. And it would be easy to convert back to a totally stock look should I need warranty work.

Anyone tried this, I already did a search for those of you salivating to be the first one to point me to that link

i'm working on a design just like that right now. stage 3 intake, it's the frankencar intake with a heat box around it and then a vent pipe. already done just need to get them completed.
