I've read a lot of posts where people considering installing an aftermarket muffler or exhaust system on their Maximas have been concerned about ending up with a farty sound reminiscent of a modified Honda 4-banger. So far, I've never seen anyone complain about it. But I thought it might be interesting to run a poll.

How about it. Any of your Maximas ever sounded farty after you installed an aftermarket muffler or exhaust system?

Interesting . . .

33 views without a response. I take this to be a good sign. If I don't receive any responses in 24 hours, I'll assume that no-one who modified their exhaust systems ended up with a farty sound and that this is a non-issue, at least for Maximas.

Speak (fart?) now, or forever hold your peace!

When I put on my Stillen Y-Pipe ,

my Max has sounded like a weed wacker ever since only on occasion though usually it has a deep throaty sound to it no farts from it but it smells like it ripped a juicy one in the morning sometimes haha,

NO farts from my Dynomax......

more like a throaty sound!! maybe its the difference in engine displacement??? like the V8 Mustangs and Camaros sound really "bassy" and low toned even at idle!!

way to loud max

when i first bought my max in 98 i put a Nakayama muffler on it and it was quiet compared to accords and other imports. a few months later i had the resanator cut and put a straight pipe in. still it was relativly quiet not much difference at all. two years later i got rid of the Nakayama and put in an Apexi Megaphone Dunk, the turbo version. it sounded sweet, true V-6 sound and not quiet at all. a month later i put in the y-pipe from stillen, hello milk truck. it sounds like a mustang or camaro ss with straight pipes all the way from the headers. @ the nopi show i talk to Apexi about a sliencer they told me to put the resanator back in. sometimes it is cool to have it that loud (like at stoplight grand prix) but @ other times it is down right annoying (like when i am trying to listen to the radio)

So the consensus seems to be . . .

that no matter what you do to a Maxima exhaust system, it is NOT going to end up sounding farty like a Honda 4-banger. And I guess it's safe to let lurkers and newbies know that whenever they ask.

Thanks for the input.

Hey Wicked, you done and got the Apexi on??? You didn't tell me you sly dog you...

Does anyone actually like the "bees in a can" sound?????

Every time I hear someone mention the bees in a can sound I think of the movie Gladiator where the Ceasar dude goes on about the "busy bees"... Dang, could anyone have done a better acting job than him for the ceasar part??? Give the dude an award!!

Big Johnson..

I didn't get it yet. i have been looking for someone with it and finally found them. its nice. i'm going to get it soon. it also has a tiny hole on the tip to add a a'pexi silencer if needed. the b-pipe look like a blue steel and the muffler and tip is polished s.s. and very shiny. the tip is about the same size as the greddy but thinner.

When I think of the bees in a can...

I think of the Simpson's episode where Homer went up to Mr. Burns's house and said something to the effect of "oh what are you going to do? Release the dogs? Or how about dogs with bees in their mouths? Or how about dogs that when they bark, throw bees from there mouths? Ah! Bees!"
