Well I am trying to figure out whether there would be an advantage to purchasing Amsoil and paying the shipping versus just buying my regular Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec. Also has anyone tried the 2000 series versus the 7500 mile synthetic by Amsoil? Is there a dealer/supplier of Amsoil in the Indianapolis, IN area? Just trying to figure out the best oil for the price for my '99 Maxima SE with 45,000 miles.

i'm gonna say, use the search buton at the top theres really a gazilion threads on oils here...

personally i went from mobil1 to amsoil. I haven't really felt any difference.. I just feel Amsoil is the better oil from reading everything here. actually it could be in my head, but my car feels a bit more performant... again probably all in my head

good luck.

No experience with Mobil 1 but I am using AMSOIL 2000 0W-30 0n 5 cars for over a year. Have had no problems with leaks or oil burning. Cars really quieted down and perform well! Check out the wear test results on AMSOIL 0W-30 on www.amsoil.com and you'll see why I use it. Amsoil gets some great prices on shipping, shipping costs won't be a major factor.

I have used Mobil 1 in my car for a while and its great stuff. Personally, I believe its the best stuff on the market. If its good enough for AMG, ///M, and many others its good in my book.

Better yet check out the oil analysis here on the org. Both oils are very good, Amsoil is just a tad better. Take that with a grain of salt. You'll see no horsepower advantage and as long as you change the Mobil one at regular intervals you'll see no difference. Amsoil will save you money over the long haul IF you decide to go with the extended drain intervals. Otherwise it rather pointless. There's several Amsoil dealers here and they'll get it to you for roughly the same price shipped as the Mobil 1.

Stay away from Castrol Syntec!! It's not good stuff.

Castrol GTX 10W-30 protects better then their Syntec line. The oil analysis on my car proved that! Castrol GTX is probably the best non-synthetic oil out there.

Like others have mentioned, this topic has been debated in depth and Bill has some excellent work on the analysis spreadsheet. I highly recommend reading it.

For the oils you mentioned: I would stay away from the XL series oils from Amsoil. The Series 2000 0W-30 or the SAE 5W-30 and 10W-30 would be the way to go for Amsoil. Mobil 1 is also an excellent product and there 0W-30, 5W-30 or 10W-30 is fine. The 0W-40 has lots of potential, but I'm not so sure it's a good choice for a Max. yet.

Stay away from Syntec. It's overpriced junk. Like Tom mentioned, you'd be much better off just using GTX over Syntec.

I am using Mobil 1 0w-30 for my 03 SE. However, my 87 SE is still running after all these years since 87 with regular 5w-30
