Re-doing my dual exhaust setup, need everyones help and input
After 11 months of my current setup, I am ready to move on. My exhaust is starting to annoy the heak out of me. I was originally going to slap a resonator or 2 in the system but I don't think that'll cure my problems. I think my problems lie in my muffler. It's a flowmasters 40-series...it's flowmasters loudest muffler available. It sounds nice at idle and what-not, but when I go WOT it sounds unbelievably ricey. My current setup is a WSP Y-pipe --> Stock Cat --> 2.5" b-pipe w/no resonator -->Flow 40-series --> 2.25" pipe running around spare tire well for a fake dual setup. I think the muffler is the main culprit for the ricey WOT, as the muffler was intended for big V8's, not 6cyl. imports.
I have been looking at the Flowmaster 60-series mufflers, that are made for 4 and 6cyl. imports. Check out the sound comparison between the 60 series and the 40 series:
60 Series
40 Series
I have been thinking about getting two 60-series mufflers. I already have a pipe wrapping around the tire well, so welding the muffler into it will be easy. But I haven't seen a 60-series muffler with dual inlets, and I need one to have dual inlets so I can hook the other muffler piping into it. If indeed they only come with single inlets/outlets, where can I hook the other muffler piping up to? I realize the spare tire well is going to have to get crushed for this to work, not a problem.
I am worried the 60-series is going to give the car a monotone low hummm like most conventional setups for the Max. On the other hand, I can't stand the rice I get at WOT with my current setup, and want to significantly quiet down my exhaust for when the blower goes on. If I go with two 60-series, I could throw a resonator into the b-pipe as well to really get things quiet.
So what do you guys think? I'm gonna need all the help I can get in planning this little project.

Dave, I actually love the sound I get below 2k rpms. I need to get a video up sometime. It actually sounds better then alot of Camaro V8's I've heard. It would blow away a Camaro with loudmouths. But whenever I floor it, it sounds so unbelievably ricey that I now avoid doing it. I wish they had some kind of variable resonator that wouldn't effect low end sound but would get rid of the rice when going WOT and in the higher RPM band.(2000+) The tone of the exhaust is so different when going wot it's amazing.
I am willing to stick as many resonators in the pipe as I can, but space is cramped for the b-pipe...I don't think you can just slap a few resonators in there and call it a day.

For example, WizzaMax stuck a 22" Allied Resonator in his b-pipe (supposedly the quietest brand) and he said it decreased his sound by 10%. That's nothing IMO. I'm looking to cut out the rice at WOT and in the higher RPM band.

you need 2.. one on each exhaust pipe.. you have that flowcrap bullshtt on there and expect it to sound good at high rpms.. either get mufflers, or slap some res' on there..
you don't know anything about it because you haven't tried anything yet.

Sadler, you think if I get a small resonator on my dual pipe (that wraps around the tire well) and a BIG one in my b-pipe, that my car will be significantly quieted? Well, i'll definatally go down there and ask them what they thing about it. It's just when Wizza said one of the bigger quietest resonators took only 10% off, I got a little dissapointed. I guess I should think differently?

You need a res that deepens the tone and quiets at high rpms, they make such things.

Well, good luck with your exahust sound then. From what I see/hear, the flowmasters are loud. They sound good on a V8 because as you know, they have the displacment to make the tone low and nice. You know you could put any tips you wanted on those mufflers. I really don't see anyway of quieting down the resonating w/o changing out to maxima or maybe Borla mufflers.
I had the feeling those duals were gonna get on your nerves sooner or later.

SC made my exhaust note quite a bit deeper. You might want to check that out first. If it does make it sound better, you'll know wether or not to cut out the muffler completely and get a new one, or just try to quiet the one you have right now down a bit more (and probably cheaper I might add) with acouple of resonators.

JAY25:
Becuase duals look MUCH better then single exhausts. Especially on a car like a Max that doesn't come with them. Custom, unique, and aggressive. I can't count how many compliments i've gotten on my exhaust. Steam pouring out of both tips on a cold morning is priceless. Nismo2020
See above.Jeff92SE, I totally forgot about transferring the tips! 5th gen mufflers might just be the way to go. But wouldn't they make my sound TOO quiet? I mean I still want it to have that deep rumble at idle, I just want the loud blaring rice sound to vanish while accelerating. Would I keep a similer idle sound with 2 2000 max mufflers over my flow? And why do you recommend the 2k mufflers instead of the 4th gen mufflers?
The only problem with the mufflers is the piping. My flowmaster has dual outlets so the pipe wrapping around the tire well connects to it. If I get two stock mufflers, what am I going to do? where am I going to hook the second muffler up to? I also have a feeling that what ever it is, it's going to be expensive.

Craig you know we just clowning on you
we need a good laugh sometimes. Clown Nismo2020, I bet you cant hear your duals if you dare to race him. He got me beat with the V12 deep tone.

No one has answered my question about the 2k stock mufflers. Why and how loud would it be vs. my current setup? I want some flow 60 series or borlas, but they are too expensive...and I know Cbr2 could get me a really great deal on stock mufflers, so that route looks more appealing. But how would it sound?
If you got the stock mufflers, there wouldn't be much to hear. I went from a raspy universal muffler to a 5th gen muffler, and all I hear now is a slight growl while slowly accelerating

Ricey is not the word to describe his shyt! How about you needs some ear plugz if you race him
, anyhow he did have a straight pipe and he told us flames was coming out of it. I was just messing with you about this whole deal I know you do it for the looks like Sadler. So I know you dont get no HP gains for those who posted below me I was just messing with Craig.
