OT, Need web site suggestions...

Hey guys, I'm sorry I posted this here, but there's always so much activity. Anyway, I just created a web site to help promote a book my dad wrote since his publisher is doing a crappy job. Question is, how do I go about getting this site 'known' about from search engines. Lots of you have web sites, and if I got to HotBot or Google and search for 'Maxima', I'll get hits to your sites. Any tips or ideas? Also, if you're interested, here's the url to the page I created. www.mindspring.com/~eirvin/book/books.html My dads book is about spy planes and such. It's my first shot at a web page, so be gentle...
Thanks in advance,
Eric

1. Get a commercial looking domain name, such as "www.maxima.org" :-) Many search engines ignore "member" pages of big consumer ISPs. Yahoo has a nice deal for $15 per month for the domain name of your choice. Dell, AT&T, IBM, and a ton of others also provide hosting for approx $15 to 30 per month. I like the combination of features that Yahoo gives.
2. Spend a few hours at http://www.searchenginewatch.com, read as much as you can and learn as much as you can. Also, lurk and search through http://www.deja.com, the archives of newsgroup alt.internet.search-engines
3. Get listed by Yahoo. It's such a market leader, that it will open other doors if you get listed there.. read up on it at http://docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest/
4. Submit to all the other big search engines too
5. Make sure the TITLE of each page within the web site is meaningful
6. Get your META tags in order. Title is more important than Meta tags, though
7. Get as many people to link to you as you can
8. Don't be tempted to spam anyone
9. And, no offense... mostly spy plane geeks will buy that book anyway, so if he participates (not spams) as an expert source in related newsgroups and web boards, with a polite signature pointing to his site, he'll get some grassroots purchasers of the book that way
