engine whine

My 2K SE has begun having an engine whine in gears 1-3. Nissan & dealer tell me that this is normal engine noise. To me (a non mechanical person), it sounds like a potential problem, possibly with a vacuum leak. My already poor performance has gotten worse since this noise started.

OR is this another case of dealerships not wanting to look for a problem and stating "could not duplicate problem".

I've been to 4 different dealerships in the Phila area and one is worse than the next.

HELP!!!!!
Steve

Re: engine whine

did you identify where its coming from?? I had a upper intake manifold leak after I did my injectors. I didn't re-torque the manifold bolts properly and in the right order when re-intalling the intake....but it kinda sounds like a supercharger though, so I drove around with it for a while! also check your various vaccum hoses too, sometimes they crack or come a loose for odd reasons.

Re: engine whine

The car was just in for service and this was one of my points of concern. As with other problems, they couldn't duplicate it. I'm not a mechanic but where/how would I check these hoses?

Re: Re: engine whine

I'm not too familiar with the 5th gen engine layout, your best bet would be to ask one of the experienced 5th gen guys.

also is the noise sychonized with the RPM??(ie-it gets louder or cuts out when you press the gas rev the motor)

good luck, these probs suck cause there are so many variables and areas where air leaks can occur.
