I broke down and ordered a Y pipe stainless for my 97 SE from Cattman today. Got the 10% discount, so it should be here by next week. I hope I see some gains, cause the $380 i coulda lowered the car...

Anyway this brings me to the next point, I want to get the Courtesy B pipe as well, but the damn thing is $180 and $30 to ship! Anybody here just running an intake with a Y pipe, and stock "cat back"? I'm definately keeping the stock muffler (even though I'm getting a 4" tip welded on) cause I enjoy a quiet car.

If you are expecting a lot of power from a B-pipe or aftermarket catback.. don't. You might see 5hp if you are lucky.

Y-pipe + intake has been dyno'd to make about 20hp at the wheels on a 5speed.

damn are you serious, 20hp!!!

i've been reading some of the project cars in SCC, and they think 10hp is a big gain. what kind of intake, JWT/stillen or the CAI. my shop told me that Y-pipe w/o exhaust won't be that effective b/c the stock exhaust will still be very restrictive. do you guys have problems with emissions after you put on the y-pipe?

thanks

The new a'pexi cat-back is as quite as stock + nice sized tip. also if it does get a little loud with the y-pipe you can put on a silencer from a'pexi. the tip had a little hole for the silencer built right in..

I started with the CAI and it alone made a diff in the torque. The Y-pipe makes HP after you get moving. Sound wasn't too bad with these mods. Good performance like everybody says.

I just added the Courtesy B-pipe 2 weeks ago. Holy Cow it's loud. I've got a throaty droan whenever I release the throttle. It's particularly bad below 2Krpm Under acceleration it's loud too, the worst being right at 2800revs. I love the fact that the huge crimp in the Nissan pipe is gone, and that I've got another 1.5" of clearance underneath though.

I did redo all the flanges from the y-pipe back to the muffler including straightening out that jog piece after the Cat.

Even with the stock muffler this thing is loud. Haven't gotten a chance to put it up and inspect it though.

y-pipe with catback

I like the sound of the catback. I put on the Courtesy B-pipe with a Magnaflow muffler (same as the Stillen non-stainless) before the y-pipe. The car had a beautiful growl. When I put on the y-pipe, it was loud for awhile, but after the ECu adjusted it got quieter again. At first my girlfriend could hear me coming down the street, but after a month or so, I could pull up at her house unnoticed. I'm happy with it, not a problem. I think the cone intake was the single loudest mod.

yes it should be 20 hp ( CAI & Y-pipe)
i feel its true that you wont get the full power of the cai and ypipe without
the cat back,,my opinion is your just holding all that power back...
but you will notice a difference anyway
i did..
