If you read your policy, it's probably in there. I have USAA and anything that is permanently attached (radio, mods, etc...) is covered. Anything that is not attached (CDs, tools, etc...) is covered under my renter's policy on my apartment.

I am on my father's Geico policy.
I asked him if my mods were covered, and he told me to make sure I save all my receipts to prove what was on the car. He said he spoke to Geico and they told him I'd be covered.

I just finished a frame-up resto of my Bronco and basically 50% of the truck is new or rebuilt parts. I asked my insurance agent for full coverage (book value $7k for an '87 Bronco 4x4) and they were real nervous about the value. My agent came to my house to take photos of the truck for their records so I can prove the value of the truck now, any they were happy.

Generally speaking, Insurance companies will cover up to $1000 worth of "extras" or merchandise inside the car. Keep in mind, you will need to produce evidence, such as reciepts.
Anything over $1000 in coverage will raise your premium.

I have USAA as well and they told me I should have pictures and receipts and the mod has to be PERMANENTLY attached to the car. So...they girl in my passenger seat trying to understand why I have a DVD player in the car... is NOT covered. I may dispose of her at any time.
or you can make a video of all the extra stuff and send it to the insurance co. That's what people should do for homeowner's insurance if they want to make sure they get what they deserve
