I was almost killed this morning. (seriously)

I work in a very rural area of GA, with alot of twisty back country roads.THe main highway going trough the county has one very sharp hairpin curve. With my Max, with KYBs, sway bar, strut brace, eibachs, and 17" Dunlop SP9000s I can only hit it at 80 before the tires want to break loose. As I came up on it this morning doing around 65, a Semi was coming in the other direction. From the looks of it, he hit the curve at around 75 to 80 and didnt realize it was so sharp. (At least 2 trucks a year turn over there.Well, needless to say, the rear right tires of the trailer left the ground and he start to tip over right in front of me. He locked his brakes, causing it to fishtail some, but he was able to get the tires back down. Had he not, and had rolled over, it would have been right in front of me and I would have hit him head on at around 60 with his speed around the same speed. It was a fully loaded traier with about 10 tons of Kayolin ( a white chalk that they mine out here) so I would have basicly hit a moving brick wall. Thats theclosest I have ever come to a really really bad wreck, and needless to say, I almost peed myself. Just had to vent and share.

Don't they have signs that indicate for trucks to slow down or sharp turn coming up?

No, no signs. Speed limit before the turn is 45. There are just about at many semis out here as cars, and many of the truck drivers regularly drive 70+ mph out here. Theres pretty much a wreck a month involving trucks. The only resturant in the county was hit once because it sits on the corner of a busy intersection, and a truck tried to make the turn to fast. Ended up going right through the corner of the building. Theres a table there, and had anyone been sitting there, they would have gotten run over. On top of the trucks, deer get hit everyday out here during this season. I really hate working out here, but the IT market is dead down here so I have no choice. I really miss NYC. Only thing I have to worry about up there is running over jaywalkers.

you should go around that corner slow next time that way incase this happens again youll have more time to slow down/ mabey stop, I hate driving by trucks too, the worst is when they come right up on your *** doing about 80 expecting you to move, and then they stay about 1' behind you untill you do move

I agree. Gotta do defensive driving on that turn now that you know that some truckdrivers are misjudging it.

Um, I do. Always have. For the past 3 years I've worked out here. Just because I "can" drive 80mph doesnt mean I do. 65 is pretty much what everyone does. And I always keep my eyes out for trucks and deer. I posted the thread just venting, not looking for advice on how to drive..........

Glad your heart is still in your body! It must've almost jumped out! I always try to find an "escape path" when I'm close to 18-wheelers in case something unexpected happens (strong crosswind, etc.)
