Howdy all.
I just registered here tonight at the suggestion of a friend of mine. My wife says it is time for the Corolla to go, so it looks like I am in the market for a nice shiny new Maxima...'cuz that is what I want...and she has no say :-)
So what I have to ask of you all here, is what should I look for (option-related) on a new Maxima? I was kind of hoping that there would be a nice leftover 2002 lying around, but at this point, we are not only still shopping for the car, but for finacing as well. Money is short on a state paycheck. I like the pewter type color I see on some maximas that pass by me once in a while, what is the name of that color so if I should waltz into the showroom to buy one I can sound edjumacated.
As far as the car itself, it's a toss up between my wife and me. I like stick shifts, she likes autos. I really don't want an auto seeing as how I am in one almost all the time...I want to have some fun. I could swing either way on leather...or cloth...which models have what? And what do they have for engines? Are all of them 6-bangers?
As you can see, I haven't spent any time in the Nissan Showroom at all...I usually drive through one on my lunch break just to scope them out and see what they have. I would rather not deal with a pushy salesman and simply walk in and buy a car...letting me run the negotiation process (I admit it...I'm a control freak).
Looking for any input that you can shout back at me...also...what's the warranty period on them as well? Is it 3 yr / 36k?

Getting ready to buy a maxima...
Wife says it is time for the Corolla to go
I'm still stuck with a company car

Out here its God's country...so don't drive like hell through it!

Well if you want sporty, you'd want to get a SE model with a 6-spd and HLSD. Do you plan on modding the car? Do you want comfort? A GLE would be nice too if you wanted an auto.
As for the pushy salesman, just walk into the dealer in uniform and buy the car. I doubt they'd harrass you then
However I don't know if officers on duty are allowed to buy cars.
Goodluck and hope to see ya soon in a Maxima.

mmmm...id go with a 2k2/3 SE 6spd w/leather and navi, but im guessing thats a little outta your budget....I'd say a left over 2k2 (if you can find one, or if you can find a used one) SE 6spd (gotta go wit hthe 6spd), LSD, no leather, no navi....thats your best bet, and wont be THAT expensive...
and where exactly are you a cop?
just in case i need some tickets written off

You can get a 6-speed in the new 2K2 VQ35 maximas, but if you look in the 5th Gen forums, alot of them have been complaining of a notchy feeling. Also, big performance mods aren't as available for the 2k2-2k3 as much as they are for the pre2k2 VQ30 cars. There are no Turbo, superchargers, or Y-pipes for the 2k2s and up.

oh there is a Y-pipe for the 2k2+. enjoy. look here
and get a 2k2 6spd w/HLSD with any other options that you want or can afford.
You should check out the 5th gen forum.
Regarding the color, you could go to Nissan's website (http://www.nissanusa.com/) and customaize a Maxima - so that you can check out the color schemes there. It might ring a bell.
Look at the 5th gen posts ... a lot of people put the color in their sig or profile. Good luck.
