Ok here is another thought, since everyone was having problems with the relay and just taking it out, how are you wiring it now? Basicly the same but instead of the RPM switch or the solenoid going to the relay then power, just directly connect it to power?

Harlan RPM switch
black wire = ground
red wire = + battery
- also hook up power wire from solenoid to this.
other wire from rpm switch = tach signal
Black wire from rpm switch (seperate from the 3 joined wires) ground to solenoid. That is all.
