For those with Kumhos

I thought I would be able to keep my Kumhos on for the winter and make it through with some careful slow driving, But that won't be the case. With just about a inch of snow and on plowed/salted roads, I was slipping like crazy. I was sliding in situations where I shouldn't have been. I am going to take them off and save them for the warmer climate. Nealoc187 said it best:

In case you are interested, Kumhos are cheaper than Toyo FZ-4s, if thats the tire you were interested in. Kumhos are stickier too, an all around superior tire, I've had both. Just don't use either in the snow or you will probably crash and die.

Forget the All Seasons, I'm putting on Snows. I got too much mod money invested in my car to smack it into a tree.

I purchased a set of 205/65/15 Firestone Winterfires for the 6.5" wheels on the maxima.

These tires have DEEP tread, are fairly inexpensive, and do GREAT in the snow!

Here's the survey from people who have bought them from Tirerack...

Here are some reviews...

These are great snow tires!

Good Luck!

hell yeah
forget it

Z rated tires are not good for snow.

plus Kumhos are summer performance tires.. they are not made for temperatures under probably 50 degrees... i wouldn't even use them in the dry if it's cold..

i'm afraid to take it out now, it's about 6" outside and i'm on 16s

Kuhmos are great for the price. But for that price, you have to give up something. And that something is cold weather snow performance! Even the slightest amount of snow creates havoc if you are these tires. Horrible performance. Trust me, I've tried to drive w/ only 1" on the ground. Might was well been a ice-rink. Even a cheap set of no name snow tires would be a much better choice.

every car forum i've visited has had multiple threads about how kumho's suck in the winter. it's really entertaining. i don't understand why people assumed they're summer high performance tires were going to be good in the snow
with so many complaints i guess the kumho tire is a popular choice among the import crowd. poor choice IMO, but it is the popular one so something has to be said for that. is it just the price?

I knew they were going to suk. They are cheap, soft and sticky. I get better grip with them than I did with my SP 8000's.
