Maxima wiring problems? Radio keeps cutting out..

My friend has a 1993 Maxima SE and is having some troubles with it that are driving us nuts. While driving around, the stereo (factory) will just die. The radio will still be on and you can play or stop the tape or change radio stations but no sound comes out. He thought it was something near his right knee on the driver's side (next to the radio) because when he'd push on the plastic there, it would start working again and when he'd quit pushing on it, the sound would cut out again. Now, the sound is off about 80% of the time.. nothing we knock on or push on will solve it. It just comes on when it wants. We couldn't find any loose or broken wires in his dash, after tearing that all apart. Does anyone know what this may be? The amps going out? A wiring harness? A common problem with a wire? Any help is appreciated
He also has trouble with his horn and cruise control. They both just stopped working. The fuses and everything are fine. Do Maximas usually have tons of wiring trouble or are these three things common and easily fixed?

Wiring Problems
Not sure about the wiring issues but my 1993 Maxima is doing something similar. When I go to start the car the clock, radio, dash lights all go off the dummy indicators stay lit and the car wont make a sound. I thought it was the starter, I already have the alternator replaced as well as the battery. All the fuses are good dont know why my car wont even start now.
