What kind of brake fluid to use?

On my way out this morning my dash brake light stayed on my whole commute. I believe it is due to my brake fluid level being low. What kind of brake fluid do you guys use on your cars? I would like to try not to buy from the dealer due to higher cost. Also my car is still under factory warranty, do you think I should have them check it out first?

Check the fluid 1st..if u topped it off and still a light...go get it checked. also might be LOW on brakes...have them looked at.

Don't forget to check your car's owners manual to get the appropriate brake fluid. I'm not referring to brand.

My 5th gen uses DOT 3.

Adam,

your pads are probably near worn out...when the pads wear the caliper piston is able to push further, therefore making more room for fluid in the lines rather than in the brake fluid tank where the fluid level is measured. DON'T ADD FLUID...it will just overflow and get everywhere when you do change your pads.

Ford Motorcraft Heavy Duty High Performance DOT 3/4. It has a dry boiling point as high as Motul brake fluid, and is el cheapo.

Mobil One Synthetic brake fluid is good too. Meets both dot 3 and 4 requirements I think.

just a FYI...it's a good idea to open the bleeder screw while u push the piston back in...so that crap in the caliper is not shot back to the master cyl. so it's ok to top off if it needs it now...and when it's time to change pads let the fluid out.
