Question about Tint Tickets?
Question about Tint Tickets?
A few months ago Chp gave me a ticket for front tint. I had liek 30percent up front. I ended up having to strip it and i retinted it 30. Now im annoyed because im thinknig if im gonig to get a ticket, i might as well get it for really dark tint. So im very much so considering restripping all tint and tinting 6 percent all around. (btw my cars black)
my questions are as follows?
1. I'm not paying for insurance and im wondering if fixit tickets like tint raise ur premium on ur insurance? I never asked my dad if the tint made my insurance go up? Do you guys know if you get caught the first time for Tint will your insurance go up? or do u just pay the fine and then it doesnt matter.
2. Does it make a difference if i get caught a 2nd time for tint in front? then will my insurance go up?
from my guess im thinking no it shoudlnt go up, but id like to be sure. Because if it is going to raise my insurance I dont think ill restrip the 30 all around and retint.

While I can't quote you laws and regulations for CA, I can say that here in Mass tint on the front windows is a no-no. If you get caught, we will give you a fix-it ticket, which requires you to show us within a time frame that you fixed what was required. If you get stopped again for the same violation within one year...you will be fined... I myself have little to no tolerance when it comes to illegally tinted vehicles. There is a reason why we do not allow you to 'overtint' your front windows...namely we can't see in when making a traffic stop. When I approach your vehicle, and I can't see what is going on in the front seat that makes me very uneasy about approaching the car. So here is a little bit of free advice to all of you out there. If you should get stopped by an officer, do him a favor; treat him with respect as you would like to be treated. Don't take anything out until he asks for it. Put down your front window, shut off the ignition, turn off the radio and turn on the dome light...but keep your hands in plain view, and abrupt movements to a minimum. All this will make the officer feel more at ease during the stop and just might get you off. Giving the officer the registration and license before he asks for it is an admission of guilt, and will almost guarentee you a citation.

Do you guys go out looking for cars with tinted windows? I mean, I'm sure you pass by at least a dozen with the front window tinted every day, but do you typically pull every single one of them over for it?
Here in NY, 70% is the legal tint on all side windows, which is basically factory tint, which means - no tint is legal. However, I've had 20% on 2 cars for months and months and have not gotten a ticket for it, yet I know others who have been less fortunate. I have been pulled over with it on the car for other things and I definately understand the concern and worry of the officer when approaching a vehicle and not being able to see anything inside.. I pulled all windows down before i was approached.. maybe that was what got me off, maybe not.
It's weird hearing that from a MA trooper, here's the law:
Massachusetts
NO / 35% Net / 35% Net / 35% Net
Enforcement Note : People with 35% tint have been given tickets for tinting due to light meters reading less than 35% since car glass can have from 70% to 90% window tint.
that's 35% all around, front sides, back sides, and rear window.
I have 35% on sides and 20% in the back, but I assume that even if the light gun reads ~30% I might get away with it. I'm in NY for most of the year anyways at college. Has this since changed?

i seriously doubt it would ever have an affect on your insurance.
and beartrap answered your 2nd question. if you get caught again, you dont get a fix-it ticket; you get a fine.
but what you said about "im thinknig if im gonig to get a ticket, i might as well get it for really dark tint." isnt really a smart thought process. the darker your tint, the more likely you will be to get a ticket for it. if you have 35% you MIGHT get a ticket for it again but there is a good chance that you wont. if you have 6% all around your chances of getting a ticket will increase dramatically.

i didn't mean to stray the attention from you. I don't have a 100% answer to your question, but I REALLY doubt that a fixit ticket will raise the insurance. Insurance may only be raised up on moving violations, such as disobeying traffic signs. Just pay the fine and you should be good. If you don't get points for it, chances are insurance does not care. And you don't get points on your license for car equipment violations.
so you're safe.
just pay the fine... incase.. :d

He didn't say not to get the stuff out but not to just hand it to him as he approaches you. I believe an officer would appreciate if you didn't have to go searching for your papers but giving them can be seen as an admission of guilt.

Think about it from his point of view if it should ever occur.

Exactly. Let's put this into your perspective I30tMikeD. You are approaching a vehicle that you have pulled over for some reason which at this point is irrelevant. You have your headlights on, a 12,000,000 CP spotlight aimed on the driver's side, and take-down lights located on your lightbar are facing the suspect vehicle as well. Fact of the matter is, when you are walking up to the car, there simply isn't enough light to clearly see what is going on inside of the car. Now-a-days you really don't know what to expect when executing a traffic stop. Everyone can get their hands on a handgun somehow... If you were walking up on a car and the driver is rummaging through his car and moving about, how uneasy would you feel? Sure the guy may be looking for his reg. but he could be loading a gun...you don't know. Let me tell you, whenever you approach a vehicle (at night esp.) your heart is racing the moment you step out of your patrol car. All it takes is one instant, one quick second and a routine traffic stop could turn into an officer's worst nightmare.
Think about it from his point of view if it should ever occur.

It was the that you said, giving your license and registration to an officer before he askes will almost guarntee a ticket because it is an admission of guilt. No matter what don't you ask to see a drivers license? You are going to ask for it any way. Then why would it make me guilty if I give it to you before you ask?
Your line of thinking on that matter does not seem logical to me.
Either way it does not matter what I think because I am not the one deciding who gets tickets.

Giving the officer the registration and license before he asks for it is an admission of guilt, and will almost guarentee you a citation.
So this is an admission of guilt?
I like to see people roll down their front window (raining or not), dome light on (at night), and hands on the steering wheel until told to get something. Passengers are thanked for putting their hands on the dash, or even roof (if in backseat).
I30tMikeD:
make sense to me... not having your license/reg sticking out the window means "I don't know why you're pulling me over", and having your hands on the wheel/ceiling (I'd never do this, but I would have people in back put them in clear view on their knees) means "I don't want to scare the crap out of you by having my hands in my pockets."
general:
why is this so hard to understand. These are COPS telling you what they do and what they expect and what they appreciate. Do it. Or don't, and increase your chances of getting a ticket, then come back here and bash them as pigs and wonder why they pick on you.

rolling your window down and turing the dome light on is just meant to give the officer a clear view of what is going on inside the car. nothing to do with admission of guilt.

. it makes sense, logically. but it can be viewed differently by the officer. i couldnt hurt just to wait until he asks for it. so just take the advice you've been given.

only moving violations will increase your insurance, having tint is not a moving violation (running red lights, speeding, etc. are)
the insurance company prolly wont even know
im in philly so no one cares about window tint, cuz everyone has it... i got yelled at once before in bensalem but she was just being a bisch because she made a bad judgement about me not stopping for a red/yellow light
so i got out and smashed her in the head with a tack hammer!
btw all cops should have to go to college and have a GPA of 2.8 or greater
let the flaming begin...
