Really, there is nothing that you can/have to do. I would give her a good bath before you go and pull the fuel pump fuse so no one can drive away with it. Just make sure you clean it good so that "if" it sits outside, it won't be so hard to clean it when you get back. Good luck with the trip.

actually that woulndt be a bad idea, make it every 4 days approx, that way it will keep the battery charged, and atleast the fluids would circulate a bit so no setteling would occur. probably wont in 3 weeks anyway but im just used to pamering my ride to hey, its not a bad thing.

the "always on" accessories will eventually run down the battery but it will probably be okay if someone starts it up every few days. if not, you'd probably want to disconnect the battery.

i have a question though for anyone who can answe., does the battery charge when the engine is just simply running? or would the engine have to be under throttle or revving to charge the battery?

Would NOT be a bad idea to have someone start it up....turn on your AC to let it circulate, and to keep everything from settling. I would have them rev it up and down periodically. I belive the alternator charges at a certain RPM..over 2000 i think.

so a typical engine idling would not be enough to charge it? since most cars idle way below 2000 rpms...

i left my max for 3 monthes in the states over the summer (two weeks after i bought it) while i was gone to korea for summer. i put it in this lady's house for the entire time and i told her she can drive it once in a while.. she drove it like every week for 1/2 ~ 1 hours. when i got back i got the oil changed immediately and everything else was fine!!

have fun in taiwan!

Nah..the alternator provides enough electricty for all the functions..whatever is left over goes into teh battery..if you start your car with nothing on, reving it to about 1500 should be sufficent to charge and keep the motor healthy.

Listening to Car Talk, they said you'd have to run it for 20 minutes for it to do any good.

A guy called in saying he'd be gone for a month and had the same question. They said "if you can't get someone to actually drive the car around for 20 minutes every few days, then don't bother" and of course the other brother said "nah, I just wouldn't bother anyway. Sitting for a month won't hurt anything."

How much do you trust this "fish feeding friend" of yours?

you should really let her drive it around the block or whatever until the temp needle max's out, that way your car will be perfectly ok

Words of advice:

1. Remove the negative cable of the battery

2. Jack up the car on all four corners so that your tires don't end up with flat spots from sitting

3. Run your car so that their is barely enough gas so that the gas does not go bad

4. Keep it covered if outside, but you should park it in the garage.

But if it was me... screw it leave it outside and let it sit.. lol.

Him being gone for only two weeks should do nothing as far as flat spots on the tire or gas going bad.

hehe put it this way--on Sat I charged a battery for 5 hours at 10 amps. I put the battery in Sun night, it hasn't failed to start once all week. The battery was sitting in the basement for 2 years.

In your case, if it didn't start, just get a jump and you'll be fine. Otherwise you can get a good battery charger for $50, or one on wheels for $100. No biggie

How about letting her back-up a little, then drive back into the garage a few times? Reverse, Drive, Reverse, Drive... Problem solved.

When I was out of the country for 2 months, my Max sat in a friend's garage. Nice that it started right up the first try, didn't even disconnect the battery cable.

Anything to make my OEM battery die

haha you're right! I don't travel anymore, but there were times when my car sat at the airport valet for 7-20 days. Never had a problem. I don't think the tires are an issue for even a month or two if they're inflated. The thing that ticks me off about a 4-5 yr. old car is after it sits, the brakes make a squeaking sound as if a caliper or parking brake didn't fully release....
