Oil Pressure Warning Light at Low RPM

My oil pressure light goes on when my revs drop below 1000 rpm. This happens both when I'm moving and when I'm sitting still, and only after the engine has warmed up. I checked the dipstick and the oil level is halfway between E and F.

Does anyone know what could be causing this, and more importantly, is it safe to drive around until I can get it checked out by my mechanic?

my guess would be a defective oil pressure sensor.. look down by the oil pan to see if its leaking..

very likely an oil-pressure sensor or the sending unit are going bad

Worst case, your oil pump is failing and your losing pressure. change the sensor quick, if the light is still there, drop the pan.

I changed the oil presure sensor ($6 part) and have been driving around for a few days now. I haven't gotten the oil light to come back on and I'm not loosing any oil (according to the dipstick). So I think it was a success.

Thanks guys! I saved myself a trip to the mechanic.
