generic mufflers

I just want a deeper sounding exhaust; when I can I'll get the Y-pipe and all that other fun stuff. Would a generic universal muffler be a good idea, or is that just rice?

i dont have a muffler but i dont think having one means its rice. i would consider though, that the sound will be louder with a freer flowing muffler but if you throw a y pipe on there then its going to be real loud. some tolerate it by throwing on an aftermarket resonator to keep sound down. if you want it real loud, cut out the resonator put on the muffler and y pipe. id suggest getting a 5th gen muffler, it should get some gain and not much noise increase then when its time for a y pipe then it be tolerable. besides the y pipe will get anywhere from 10-20 fwhp while the muffler might throw around 5.
