Are maxima trannys really that bad?
Just wondering after looking at a lot of posts, there seems to be ppl here on the .org that have gone thru at least one tranny (auto. or even manual) before the 100K mark, ? is, are our maxima trannys built or designed that bad to go out prematurely??

My sister has 180,000 miles on her '95 Auto GXE, and the tranny is still kickin! And she beats the living crap out of it...just last weak all the coolant leaked out and she almost fried her freaking engine. Luckily the ECU took over and shut down the car. The guy said 5 more minutes of driving and her engine/tranny would have been toast. As you can see that car has been through hell, and is still kicking.
My car was an automatic with 69,000 miles on it before I converted. The auto was in perfect running condition, and I mean perfect. The manual that was put in had 70k miles and has 74k to this day, and IT'S in perfect condition.
These transmissions are definatally built well.. it's when you do burnouts on pillows and heat up/stress out the tranny and driveshafts is when you get problems. You can run your Maxima hard, just be sure to maintain it routinely and you'll be fine.

maxima trannies are perfectly fine. the only time you should run into a problem with the tranny other than the ever so often "sh*t luck" is if you beat on your tranny hard, and most 5speed tranny problems are only clutches, because many people (not all) on the org, are hard on their cars. but maxima's are d*mn good at taking it

Yes they are bad. This is the weakest tranny I've ever driven.
But, many of you are forgetting the differential carrier bearing problems. Countless people have had those problems, and not all beat the F outta their cars. That was defiantely a manufacturing defect.

The Maxima automagic is pretty solid as far as I'm concerned. The only failures you read about are usually from people with VERY modded cars.
There are probably 10 failures at the AccordV6.com site for every single failure here. And even then, the people at the AV6 site are often times not even running much if anything above stock power levels.
Honda had to extend the warranties on a lot of their V6 tranny's for a reason. They suck!!![Stick Out Tongue](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Maxima automagics don't seem to drop like flies like they do on Honda's

Mostly 3rd gen autos are garbage. no matter what, they fall out before or at 100K

you all are fools
the manual transmission (at least 95-97) from what i'm aware of, sucks nuts. The differential bearings were like made to fail. I've driven the **** outta outta my first car and it's tranmission (185k miles) and it hasn't died. Hell, my maxima is commuter car!!!!! Altho i think the problem arose when ****ing nissan put regular tranny oil instead of synthetic.. i have that to blame my differential bearings failure now for the first time at 140k miles.
it doesn't matter how hard u drive the car
