Interstate Megatron-plus VS Optima Red top
http://www.ibsa.com/www_2001/content...oduct_auto.asp
Model:MTP-24F Cold cranking amp: 800 Reserve capacity: 125 mins. Warranty: 72 months Cost: ~$85
http://www.ibsa.com/www_2001/content...autosealed.asp
Model:SC34R CCA:800 Reserve capacity: 104 mins Warranty: 72 months Cost: ~$120
One draw back of the Interstate Megatron-Plus is weight. Whooping 50lbs. I think Optima is less than 40lbs.
The regular Megatron MT-34R weights less but you have to give up some CCA.
MT-34 CCA: 700 RC: 120 Warranty: 60 Cost: ~$70

Well, since Optima is such a prestigous name in the battery industry, I would stick with them. I have heard great things about both Yellow and Red Top Batteries, regardless of the application. I personally am getting the Yellow Top when this current battery fails me for the last time.

I believe the 34 group is bigger than the 35 group too. MT-34R would fit also but it's just not listed under maxima application.

You have also posted the correct battery size, 24F, unlike alot of past posts which said it was group 35. To those a*******, thanks for the misinfo because I have a group 35 under the hood! If you look at the battery sizing charts the group 24F has more plates and much larger dimensions, ie the weight. So what, the car came with a 24F I wouldn't recommend a smaller battery like the Optima just to save weight.

Yellow is a deep cycle battery.. it's primary advantage is that it is hard to kill it...
it's best for say, playing your stereo with the car off and the battery not re-charging
where a conventional battery may give you enough juice, it will die far quicker when it is not being simoltaneously recharged when the car is turned on.
I don't have my system installed yet, but i don't even play music with the car off so i went with a high amperage Diehard Gold battery..
it should give me enough power, plus my stereo isn't all that crazy either...
maybe 800 watts..

red top is a "starter" battery. unless u run the car a lot when its off..stay w/ red..IMO.
from their site...
What is the difference between your deep cycle and starter battery?
The OPTIMA deep cycle battery utilizes a different chemistry for the active paste material on the plates, and a slightly stronger acid. This chemistry changes allows for a much longer life in cycling applications, with only a slight reduction in power.
