I used to paint my old cars for kicks back in the day. Trust me when I tell you the following. By the time you buy all the equipment and materials, you will have spent thousands. And you know what? The job will still look like crap. Yes you have to have the right tools, but painting cars is a skill. It's like having a complete set of Callaway golf clubs that cost $3000 and never golfed before.
If you don't care about the quality too much, just take it to Macco or something. If you want a nice job, then take it to a good paint shop and pay.

Maaco isn't necesarily bad...
My best friend repainted his 95 Max from faded green to Kia White (whitest white he could find) He paid about $1500 with jams painted (he stripped the car himself). The best thing about Maaco that no other paint shop could do (although other places were more expensive and possibly could do a better job) Maaco had a 4 year warranty on the paint.
