i believe EVERY engine mod effect emissions. the intake..you should be able to pass w/o a prob.

The Y-pipe may effect emissions. But from what I hear, if your engine is at normal operating temperatures, the Y-pipe will not affect emissions. On a cold engine though, it may not pass. By replacing the Y-pipe you are getting rid of the pre-cat.

As for intakes, the only one that's C.A.R.B. approved for the Maxima is the Stillen Intake and then only for model years up to 1998. However, it's a whole lot easier to put on your stock intake before you take your car in for a smog check than it is to put on your stock Y-pipe.
