I've decided what route I'm taking with my Maxima--all motor
I've decided to stay all motor for now. Much as I'd like to get a turbo kit, I don't have the money right now and to get it by spring time would be a real stretch, I'd be eating ramen noodles until then, and I don't skimp well when it comes to food.
I've decided to just round out the bolt on mods for spring, exhaust, UDP, and a JWT ECU with 7200 rev limiter. My cartest simulations show that simply raising the rev limiter from 6500 to 7000 and with NO OTHER GAINS (as far as HP/tq is concerned) it would cut .45 seconds off my 1/4 mile time and gain an incredible 3mph in the 1/4. Any HP/TQ gains are bonus material. This would put me around 14.0 on street tires and 13.5 on slicks. It's amazing how corked the MEVI cars are because of our 6500rpm rev limiter.
In the fall, when I've had a chance to save up more then I'll probably get the turbo kit, but for now I'm just too poor to be getting one.

i kinda like you better without the snail.. it's nice to see people doing amazing things and going extremely different routes.
Neal-
How are you getting a 7200 rev-limiter? I was always under the inpression that the JWT had a 7000 rev-limiter. Did you talk to them or something? If not, I was thinking about calling them up to see if they could modify my ECU to a 7200 limiter. I'm going to be holding on to my car for a while longer therefore I want to make full use of my MEVI. I'm glad CARTEST is showing some serious gains. I know what you're saying about "corked" because when I shift into 2nd and 3rd, I can feel a slight lag in power until things start going again at a fury from 5000+.

Good news Neal. I was just about to email you concerning the gains of adding the JWT ECU to a MEVI. I hope your calculations are right. Half a second???
I had decided to do the same(MEVI and JWT ECU), but Brian already sold his MEVI
It would have been nice to be able to buy everything at once. Especially locally.

OMG!!! This is great news because a 7200rpm limiter would be ideal. Theoretically, you want your shift point ~500rpms after peak. Judging from my dyno plots, it looks like power is starting to fall off around 6400-6500rpms SO ~7000-7200rpms would be perfect. Now I just need to find a 5 speed ECU with a similiar VIN.

8000 rpms
Turbo95 must have an extra specal UDP on that biatch! I can only imagine his AC compressor or ALT flying off from those dizzying rpms.
Any idea on how much just a fuel cut adjustment costs on a stock ECU?

i thought that to raise the rev-limiter, you would need to get cams or some things, cause otherwise you would float your valves or something. wont there be reliability problems from this if you dont build some parts in the motor? im sorry, i have no real idea what im talking about, but i seem to remember reading about things like this in the past. please fill me in

Cams only affect how the valves open and close. The rev-limiter is programmed into the ECU, so to raise the limiter, you need to get the computer reprogrammed.
But, other than someone completely rebuilding their motor, who installs stronger valve springs?
