Does anyoen have connections from dash kit compainies?

Hey, Im wondering if anyone here can get some custom things made for me and maybe others. What I want is something to cover up the ugly air bag warning labels that are on the back of the sun visors. What I have done is covered them up with synthetic vinyl but I would like to have some real stuff on there like carbon fiber or wood dash material. heres a pic of what Im talking about.

EDIT- I dont need any flames about how they look, Im just here trying to get something made for us.

take a trip to the hobby store! Look for that carbon fiber vinyl film... they also have wood ones. I remember in 6th grade (7 yrs ago), my teacher bought us these large sheets of wood grain film to cover our carboard binders w/. So yeah... check out hobby store. You know what, now that you bring this up, I think i will attempt it w/ carbon fiber. When / if i get this done, ill get back to this thread w/ pics.

do post pics when your done. BTW I already tried the vinyl film as seen in the pic above(thats my car) I want something more real like an actual solid cover to go over it much like a dash kit piece rather than having the film.

what about buying a wood veneer from the hardware store? it's usually relatively easy to cut and stain, and you can get it in MANY different types of wood, color, and grain pattern.

either that or build your own CF ones. you can buy the sheets and resin at tons of places online or locally- if ou live in a large enough city. Heck, even Tulsa, OK has half a dozen places I can buy CF from!

Im clueless when it comes to wood so If I were to make my own, they would lack the "Depth" and 3D-ness that you see from a dash kit piece. You know how the edges are contoured and rounded off instead of being flat. I dont know, Ill look around until I find the right ppl to get something made.

To get that contoured look of dash kits, buy some 2-part plastic epoxy and pour over wood pieces.

You have to sand edges of wood smooth and even first, and add a substrate to back side if the wood you are using is thin (under 1/16").

Suspend wood pieces perfectly flat on top of some nails that have been evenly pounded in a board (wifes kitchen counter works real good here), or on top of something flat that is smaller than the perimeter of your trim pieces, so edges are not touching anything and liquid plastic will drip over and past edges.

Then mix and pour plastic epoxy coating over them. It will flow over sides nicely, and give you a 3-D look. Pour excess epoxy onto scrap pieces at same thickness so you can check if coating is dry and hard. Sand edges smooth after epoxy hardens.

Velcro sticks to visor material really good. So if you want tirm pieces to be removable, make them wider than airbag label and stick velcro on the back of trim pieces.

You might want to do a practice run on scraps first. Read and follow mixing and curing directions of liquid plastic carefully. If the epoxy is mixed or cured wrong, the stuff will have bubbles in surface, not lay smooth, cure too fast or too slow.

Trim pieces should be absolutely clean. Any dust will be magnified by epoxy.

Liquid plastic is not edible, should not be applied to family pets, or used to seal zig-zags.

PS: Don't blame me if you "seduce the canine".

PPS: What a frikken pain of a project. I have a much better idea that I will sell you.

I know a guy that makes custom dash kits. He inlays just about any kind of material you can think of. I'll be changing my kit this summer, it's gonna be totally custom.

I wanna put em on my mirror visor thingy too... hopefully it'll somewhat match because i know i can't wrap the cf film over those rounded edges.

I seen some CF film over at those sticker stands at the mall. expensive though but probably cheaper than the hobby store. also if you have aluminum dash kits they have aluminum film too
