how to tell the difference of motor, tranny, brake, powersteering fluids?
I am having a leak that I have not been able to get looked at with all the snow here.
I was wondering--is there a way to tell what my car is leaking--what type of fluid it is, be it power steering, brake, tranny or motor oil?
Can anyone distinguish between the consistencies and color?
I'd appreciate if anyone can elaborate on this...since it is hard to tell on the snow--and i don't notice any lower levels in the fluids...
thank you.

Motor oil if old will be a very dark color.
Tranny oil(automatic) is typically a redish color. Power steering fluid is often the same fluid as tranny fluid.
Brake fluid is usally a golden color but also can be dark if old.
They all smell different but it's hard to describe.

for the info. The color of the oil that is leaking is somewhat of a light color--golden brown as you said--and it is a light consistency--could it be brake fluid then?
