I have a 96 Max 5sp with 125K on it and never had any probs with the car (I've had it since 97 when it had 17k on it.) Today I take it to get the oil changed and they said I have some tranny probs...namely the carrier bearing is going out on the LH side and they had to add 1.5 qts of tranny fluid...he said it had about 1.5 inches of play--NOT GOOD! I called the Apex, NC dealership and they said $1200+...

Anyway I recently moved to Durham NC, and now I need to find an honest shop to do the job. I am willing to travel if I have to so I don't get screwed! Any help would be appreciated...

Am I really looking at $1200-$1500? Yikes! Should I go ahead and replace the clutch too while they have it tore apart?

 

i just paid 650.00 on parts and labor i just put it in on friday it feels good so far. call that guy dennis in the 800 number i posted he gets trammy form around the country, he is good.
