That's basically the same as sticking a K&N filter on it, due to the less restrictive air intake.
NO it's NOT good for the car.
It might make black smoke come out, but that's only because the engine is over-compensating the free-er flowing intake by dumping lots mroe fuel into the line.

Black smoke is caused by too much fuel in the engine, not because they took the filter out.

the fun part about it is that about the first time he drives through a duststorm or dusty construction area, he's going to suck all that dirt into his engine and scratch the hell out of the internals. Then he'll soon be dumping out blue/grey smoke, which is from the engine burning oil- which spells D-E-A-D- -H-O-N-D-U-H. What a way to ruin an emezingly designed piece of equipment. (the engine, not the honduh itself).

yes, it is DEFINETELY not good for the car

one of my good friends decided to take his whole airbox out of his accord and driving through rain one night he sucked water into his engine.....the new engine cost him some $$$

well if he likes it hten

if it's not the new sI then here' swhat he should do.. tell him to unbolt the bottom half of the air box, and then zip tie the airfilter onto the top portion of the air box or wherever the intake arm is connected to so that you still got the sound but u also have the filter , just at the price of the zip ties..ohh it also won't have the swirly vacum sound.. and sounds like a ricer at wot.. he might like it..

Also, tell him to dump a handfull of sand into the intake..

It will help clean out the carbon deposits off the valves, pistons, cylinder walls, rings, crankshaft,ect...
if done enough times, he has basiclly overbored his cylinders, allowing for bigger pistons!!!!!!

no problem there

the fix for the over bore, sugar... it'll fill up the gaps nicely.. gonna make a honda type R lolly pop..

since he likes home made mods.. tell him to paint the interior if he hasn't yet. it'll actually look nice imo if done right.. i painted my CRX two silver. hahaha and then metalic blue.. to match the exterior..

The filter keeps dirt and garbage out of the engine...

Remove that filter, and all that crap you see on the filter when you change or clean it, goes into the engine. Not good. Unless you want a new engine...
It's much cheaper to buy a K+N filter....

imo

your better off with a home made pop charger rather than loosening a few bolts.. watch out for the air flow sensor.. don't disconnect nething.. it'll b a pain inthe butt.
