Order of Suspension Modifications

I just purchased a 2000 GXE 5spd to replace my 1991 SE 5 spd and I would like to do some suspension upgrades. However funds to do it all at once are not available, so my question is what should I do first ?

The new car has 29k miles on it and I will probably move the Potenza RF950 205/65/15s from my old car onto it as they only have about 4k miles on them.

So, I have some choices, but I am not sure of the order to do them in:

Heavier Front Sway Bar
Rear Sway Bar
Urethane Bushings
Upgraded brake pads
Front Strut Bar
Stiffer Front Struts
Stiffer Rear Shocks
Stiffer Rear Springs

All opinions and advise appreciated.

easiest upgrades after the tires would be a FSTB and RSB

What you should do first depends on if you want to buy the expensive stuff first or last

My real question is, is it possible I could do this in a way that would make my handling worse ? If I install a RSB but leave the stock GXE shocks will it have a negative effect ? I kind of figured the FSTB would be a good start, but should I do sway bars before shocks ? I guess my concern is in tightening it up too much in one way and not doing it as a package.

All i have is the FSTB and RSB right now, and i will be putting in some springs, shocks and ES bushing this spring. The car handles better than stock with the RSB, it holds tighter on the highway and on turns, and the FSTB make the car feel more solid and i did notice less flex in the body with it on in turns. so you should be fine if you do a few things at a time, but do these two first.

Hey,

I'm assuming you're talking about the front strut tower brace(FSTB) not the front sway bar(FSB) that sits under the car. Replacing the FSB with a heavier one will give you a lot more understeer, which is not what you would want in a FWD car. Just want to make sure we're on the same page. Oh, and to answere your question the first thing you should replace are struts/shocks + add subframe connectors if you plan on keeping the car for a long time. This will make your car a totally different animal..

Good luck and peace.

No one makes a front sway bar, form what I've seen. Start off with the FSTB and RSB, then change out the springs and struts
