tire recomendations

its time to buy new tires again, and i was hoping to get some input. i'm looking @ the kuhmo supra 712's again (in the W-speed rating, not the v rating); or the Yoko AVS dB, Yoko Avid V4, or maybe the Kuhmo Ecsta MX / dunlop sp8000's. i've looked through the reviews and still can't decide. i would get the dunlop 8000's, but when i had them on my Supra i only got 14k on them. so any help or suggestions would be awesome... thanks.

Did you by chance get inner tire wear? That was why I had to replace my Kumhos at 25k miles. If they had worn evenly, I would have gotten 30-35k easy. Do a search for my posts and you will find a recent one which has to do with my tire wear experiences with Kumhos and a discussion of how even minimal camber can affect tire wear.

I got 25K out of my SP8000. Great tire, some say old technology tire but damn things stick like glue. They do get a bit loud around town, you can hear the tread after they start to ware down. Oh the highway they've been smooth as silk and handle awsome, even on wet roads. Nice stiff sidewall too, very responsive tire to run on the Max.

If you want to spend a little more, I'd recommend Toyo Proxes T1-S. They stick like mad, handle great in the wet, and are very predictble when pushed to their limit. They're the best tires I've ever used, including Pirelli PZero Direzionale.

Amen, I'm hooked on T1-S.

It seems the starter of this thread is interested in a tire that doesn't cost quite that much, in which case I'd check out the new Yokohama AVS ES100. They have been getting rave reviews. If you are concerned with treadwear don't get the Kumho Ecsta MXs they are pretty poor longevity from what I've read.

BTW the Avid V4 is an all season tire but from the rest of your choices it seems you are looking for a summer only tire.

thanks for the input... but i'm just going to have to do some more research. i don't mind the kuhmos... but i don't really like them either. i've owned sp8000's and loved them... but i don't know how much wear i would get on a fwd. also owned RE-930's, they were a good tire... very light... but didn't wear evenly... even with many rotations and balances. and i really don't know if i want a summer or an all season tire. i know the kuhmo's are a summer tire so they have low traction when cold. but here in NC the winters are not that bad. so anyway, any other suggestions would be cool, but looks like i'll just have to do a bit more reading. thanks everyone.
