Custom Fiberglass Hood
If I were say interested in making a Fiberglass hood, and assuming i know how to mold, what additional advice could you give me? Should I worry about heat? How many layers would it need to be?

He probably wants to do it because it a DIY project vs buying something off the shelf.
There is something about making something yourself that gives satisfaction no money can buy.
You could also probably make it lighter than the carbon fibre because you could make it thinner if you want. (That is vs a purchased CF hood) Yes of course it would flex more and not be as safe (need hood pins) but for racing I have been considering it too.
I have seen hoods on sleds (snowmobiles) for racing that rippled when the wind blew they were so thin but also very very light.
I wouldn't go with anymore than 1 or 2 layers to start and see how flexible it is. You can put some bracing in to support it as well. Also depends on what you are primarily using it for, racing, show, street etc.
You might want to consider making a carbon fibre one too (vs purchasing), I haven't tried anything in CF yet so not sure what you would need vs fiberglass.

Carbon fiber resin and fiberglass resin are different. There is a big difference in cost of the material. That's why fiberimage use fiberglass core with top layer of carbon fiber. If the whole thing was made out of CF, they could easily charge twice as much.
