To anyone that has upgraded / replaced their clutch .. flywheel question ...

Were you able to machine your flywheel or did you have to replace?

I have to replace my clutch ... but I don't want to be in a position where the shop says they can't machine my flywheel b/c it's in such rough shape .. and then scramble to find an aftermarket flywheel (which may impact the driveability of my car .. which is an entirely different issue).

Can you help / comment?

Ciao!

the less you drive the car with a slipping clutch the more chance they have of resurfacing it. my mechanic told me if i had waited much longer my clutch would have eaten into the flywheel

I've had my flywheel machined twice so far and had it lightened in the process. I've never seen a clutch so bad that the rivets wore grooves into the flwheels surface though.

Just figure on scheduling the replacement in the not so far future(idealy before it strands you on some road)

I had my flywheel resurfaced when my ACT was put in. No problems since, but I didn't let me clutch get too bad.
