5thgen Auto TURBO Maxima joining the boosted community!

Pics of the Turbo

Well, finally did it and it is finished. The pics above show the layout. This is a t3/t04 .63ar turbo on a 2001 SE Auto.

This was done by the infamous HAROLD (www.hlh0501.com). Gave the car to him Sat Feb15 and picked it up ONE WEEK LATER on Feb22. Yes that is right, the ENTIRE Turbo from the ground up was custom installed in exactly FIVE DAYS.

Also done was the Front Mounted Intercooler. That was installed without cutting of the frame or anything. Only drawback was the loss of my foglights. Also was installed was a 3" exhaust from the Catalytic Convertor. Also installed Blitz Turbo Timer that was discretely installed in the "ash tray". Also a boost gauge and a/f gauge installed.

The feels great even snow I was driving in snow, once the roads were cleared I floored it from 70 and it went to 120 extremely quick. Right now at the moment Im pushing only 5psi. Plan on pushing that upto 8psi by the end of the week and then dyno tuning it 2weeks from now.

For those of you that feel this COULD NOT BE DONE, well feast your eyes on the pics and eat your words.

Thanks to Hal and the intense work that was involved this project was done with almost no issues. Only issue I had was the two rear o2 sensors that had to be moved to behind the cat to keep from getting a check engine light. No big deal.

If you guys are interested, check Hal's website out for information on his kit. www.hlh0501.com.

Very sweet. All these turbo Maximas are really making me think. 4-5 psi is all I'd want because I'd like to keep my reliability and have some controllable power. With 4-5psi, the 4th gen has a power to weight ratio of a LS1 F-Body.

I've got some questions for the turbo guys:

1) How is driveability? Is it linear or are there "hiccups" throughout the powerband?

2) What about vibrations and pipes hitting the undercarriage? I couldn't stand loosing the smoothness of the VQ or the car in general.

3) Could I use a smaller intercooler since I'd plan on running a lower amount of boost (4-6psi). How about no intercooler?

Thanks!

Dave

As I said, the turbo feels great, pulls very hard from 70-120. Highway driving is really fun with it now.

Woo Cho: Check the website for the info on how much it costs.

Blazin 2k Max: It is alot better than before, definetely a dramatic difference, this aint no Ypipe mod going in. No you cant have the fogs just yet, I dont know if I want to keep them or not.

Dave B: Driveability is fine, Iv got the vbMod done already. No hiccups through the band, at 2500rpm full boost is acheived and it is straight up power till redline. My intercooler is only 6" high by 30" long. That is smaller than Kevin's.

very nice!

Thanks for sharing the big beautiful pictures! Sounds like you went whole hog on this and got all the bells and whistles. Install looks very clean, and it sounds like you're enjoying the investment. Any plans to take it to a track?

Looks GREAT!!!!!

Man I can't wait to see the dyno.. and you say full boost at 2500 RPM???

Is first gear a waste or can the VB/tranny get the shift done before the rev limiter.. when floored?

also which BOV do you have and how loud is it?

and if you keep it in 1/2 and at high rpm 4500+ and let off do you hear the blow off valve?

Just had a thought about something

Link still works for me and two others Im talking to on AIM.

Bags: 1st gear aint a waste, it just gets up there really quick. BOV is an HKS Racing, not really loud, all it does it release air. All you hear is a huge gush of air coming out. You hear the same when you let go of the gas.

DA-MAX: First dibs? Hahhaa. It is 2.5" piping all in the engine. No stalling issues at all, that is why I put the MAF on the charged side to avoid that.

No plan on taking it to the track yet. Im not much of a drag racer. I do it for show and my own enjoyment.

interesting all of the other turbo guys I've seen so far have done the opposite(intake side), I've seen some 240 guys do it, but not any Maxima guys. that was one of my concerns when I was planning my setup a while back...anyways looks good man!!

Matt's car is untouchable. I dare not to exceed his #s, too much work involved and no as easy as it looks.

Im not a drag/track person. I might take it once.

Front mount pics will come soon, right now the car front is covered in snow, ask a UMD_MaxSE. Plus the intercooler cant be seen with the street scenes valance grille.

What's the price tag of the auto intercooled?

The site says 3900 for 5-speed, but auto is a bit more...
