Piece of air filter destroys turbo.....

so i got my new MAF today, took off the old one and i noticed the screen was torn. so i look in the tubing and there is a small round metal piece. im like WTF is that? turns out its part of the air filter that came apart, so i take a peep at my turbine...juss as i thought, the metal piece hit the turbine and destroyed the blades and ruined the seal....GREAT.

That sucks

THats got to be upsetting. Something that was working nicely and now you have to spend money replacing that instead of other things. Hope its not to expensive.

That's unfortunate about the turbo dying. There must have been some intense airflow going on there.

Yea I would like to know which kind of filter that was as well?

Right now im using an aFe filter. Is it known to be as good or better than the Apexi. Main reason because the aFe is still a wet filter and not a dry one.

My question is: How much debris got through the turbo and into the motor? Replacing the turbo is quite a bit cheaper than replacing the motor. Less time consuming too.

Good question. Is the metal piece he found the one that damaged the turbine, or did another piece get through?
Can you imagine what that would sound like if it got all the way to the engine?

Just FYI while we're on the topic...never use a foam filter with a turbo. Alot of people do it, but its an extra risk you don't have to take. Those compressor blades are spinning at over 100,000 rpm and one small peice can wreak havoc.
