Help!! Max Broken!! No Clue

This is the deal, I go and park my car for a second, then I get right back in and try and start the max. I go and turn the key and when the key gets to the ACC position I lose all power. I mean everything, no lights at all, no dome headlights, no radio, NOTHING. So, I think it is the battery or a fuse. I replaced the battery because it was the original battery.
I then checked:

1 Every fuse and relay (in the car and under the hood)

2 The battery leads

3 The starter solenoid

4 The ignition switch

When checking relays and switches I used a volt meter to test for resistance and continuity. Everything checked out OK. I have no clue what is wrong. Does anyone have any guesses?

This is a 4th gen right? It seems that some 4th Gens are having problems with even starting/cranking. JaimeCBR900, my cousin, and a few others on here are having the same problems. Have you tried "turning" the steering wheel while trying to start it. Sometimes the steering wheel "lock" will not disengage, but that would not explain why you lost all power. Do you have a spare ECU on hand, or a buddy around you with one?

No, I don't have a spare ECU. I hope it isn't the ECU, that would be expensive! I didn't try turning the steering wheel and starting. I don't think this would help because as you stated the loss of ALL POWER. Yeah, it is a 4th Gen, a '99 to be specific. Anyone else with help!

check the ignition switch or the actual lock cylinder...you get any access to FSM or the like and it should help...good luck!

I will post this in the 4th Gen forums as well. I checked the switch itself not the lock cylinder. I also have the Nissan theft system and didn't know if it could have something to do with it? I had to have my Max towed to a shop to have the work completed. I am totally confused :got me:

P.S. It was raining and the car was sitting in water when this happened. I am almost positive it is a short now, just not sure where.

Have a look at this thread.

He also had a 99 and couldn't start the car. Turned out to be the immobilizer circuit malfunctioning.

I just called Tom Wood Nissan in Indianapolis and talked with a tech. He stated that if it was the immobilizer system the car would start and die repeatedly. I don't have any power what so ever. For those of you that had the immobilizer problem, did you lose all power (radio, lights, etc.) or were you just unable to start the car?

UPDATE!

The problem just turned out to be a bad ground. I don't know how I missed this. I feel sooooo stupid. Anyway, while it was in the shop I had the cruise control problem checked out. This is where the cruise shuts off when I turn on my turn signal. This is caused by a bad clock spring in the steering column. It was going to be $400 to fix, so I didn't get this repair done! I am hoping to find a clock spring in a junkyard and repair it myself.
