What can be done to stiffen the 4th gen chassis? I know the usual, FSTB, RSTB. I think we have to push some aftermarket manufacturers to produce something to further stiffen the chassis. Make it more responsive. An underbody brace comes to mind. What do you people think of this idea?

I've been meaning to make a front subframe brace, but I haven't gotten around to doing R&D on it. I've got a few underbody shots and the Maxima should not be difficult to make a subframe brace for the front.

I have made an underbody "X" brace to put on my 89' max. It welds on to the four jack up points to give the underbody a triangluar bridge design. Basically it was copied from the M3. Its very easy to make, but its not really needed on a 4th gen, because of its suspension type. If the car wobbles, blame the Quality.

A roll cage will stiffen the chassis up very nicely. I guess subframe connector is a good idea. Mustang guys have them.

What's a R&D?

Could you explain why it wouldn't help that much? Just curious.. Wonder how much such a brace would cost.. So you're saying there wouldn't be much of an improvement if such a brace was installed?

That log beam rear suspension really comes back to haunt you, doesn't it? But then again, you guys can have coilovers and we can't. GRRRR
I'd think that mostly you wouldn't see much help is just because of the rear suspension.. the back wheel stay planted, but the rest of the car is free to lean and bend and flop around all it wants.

I've also thought aout doign something with my 3rd gen, but gave up after determining it's already too low to the ground as it is. I've only got Eibachs and this car bottoms out on somethign at lest once a week. if I add bracing underneath, I'll probably break it off within a month.

Yeah I think Maxima definelty needs some better suspension..

I have 2000 SE with FSTB and RSB and 17". Car still feels very floaty and unstable.
I think it is mainly because of the Rear-Beam Axle.

Maybe front suspension needs some fixing too.

On stillen '00 Maxima project, the rear-beam axle was welded shut at the bottom to stiffen the back on the car some more. Any takers...
