CARCHIP Performance Monitor - is this thing for real?...

Choose one of the CARCHIP links & look at the "DETAILS" link at the bottom:

http://www.provantage.com/FC_DAVC.HTM

Says it uses the ODB-II interface...

Haha... I'd love to search, but it's disabled tonight...

It depends on your needs. If you have another person that drives your car and you question their driving habits, this would be good follow-up for that. Hmmm...I might need it then. My car sits in my garage for a few days at a time and I swear my brother finds my keys and takes it out. I have a suspicion because of the mileage, hmmmm.

You do know that this thing does absolutely nothing for performance of any kind, right? You plug this in drive with it and hook it up to your PC. It tells you your max speed(max speed you drove at) hard braking, trip length and all that crap. They had this on so many car shows on TV it's not even funny...

Glad my Dad didn't have on of these way back when. All he could do was check tread depth on his 73 Riviera w/455 after I drove it.
Wish I had a kid to test it on myself.

I am aware. But you can read error codes with it according to the details. That's what I'd like to use it for.

More cool features of the E/X chip:

RPM
Throttle position
Engine load
Coolant temperature
Intake manifold pressure
Air flow rate
Intake air temperature
Timing advance
Fuel pressure
Fuel system status
Short and longterm fuel trim
Oxygen sensor output voltage
Battery voltage

Re: Re: Re: CARCHIP Performance Monitor - is this thing for real?...

you did see the part about "measures up to four engine parameters" so you can choose 4 of the ones on that list to record.

if all you want to do is use this to record/check stuff, there are better options. If you want to use it to keep track of another driver this might be the best thing because it can easily be hidden.

search around for "car software odbii palm" in google and read a little about other stuff available.
