Help! Car not starting!

Hi,

I have a 1990 Max GXE. I tried starting my car tonight but it doesnt start! It has a brand new battery (3 months ago). I have never had problems starting it after I replaced the battery. When I try to start it I hear a click-click-click sound but the engine doesnt crank. The lights and everything else works fine. And yes, I tried searching the forum but I think the search function is disabled right now cuz it doesnt work. Can anyone help me? I really need the car by tomorrow morning Thanks.

even if the battery is new, it doesnt mean its good. brand new batterys can go bad also. If you can, hook up a meter to it and see how much voltage the battery has.

could be battery like he said...or alternator

leave your stereo on...and see if anything dims...then its a power supply problem.

other wise its your starter probably.

Hi again,

Well since the car wasnt starting today, I gave it a jump and it started. But all the electric things werent working properly. The wipers were working slowly, windows rolling up slowly and the defrost was barely working at all! I think I'll give it to a mechanic today but what I dont understand is how could all this happen with a new battery? Or could it be some other problem like the alternator?

I have a similar issue. Do you have an aftermarket alarm or stereo? After working under my dashboard for a week I figured out that my alarm was draining my battery for some reason. I basically ripped the whole thing out and re-installed it (along with an Optima) and have not had an issue since.

I have an aftermarket stereo and speakers. I installed those about a month before I started getting problems with the old battery and replaced it. Hmmmm, you may have a point about the stereo draining the battery. I might have to look into that
